I have noticed that my 2 yr old golden retriever's teeth are becoming yellowish, I want to see if I could start to brush his teeth once in a while. Does anyone have any recommendations of anykind? I know they sell toothbrushes for dogs and toothpastes at the store but are there any specific kinds that work better than others?

I started to brush my dogs teeth when she was a puppy and she is now 10 months old and still resists this. I use the petrodex chicken flavor toothpaste. It's one of those things that I have to strugle with her, but I guess It's worth it. I try to do it once a week. Not sure how often is necessary. Worse than brushing her teeth is cutting her toe nails. I have to pin her down just about. I have a 13 yr old and 10 month old brittanys. I didn't mention that I use a regular type of small tooth brush that came with the tooth paste. Before I brush her teeth I let her first lick some of the tooth paste and she likes the taste. Hope this was of some help.

Thank you Judy, I actually went to petsmart and bought the poultry flavored toothpaste, I guess thats pretty much the flavor they carry. He surely does not like it either. Can't believe you started that when she was a puppy, Didnt think about doing that till now, LOL. but i guess better now than never. Thanks again :)

Brushing your dogs teeth is very important and the sooner you start the better it can add years to your dogs life. The bacteria that builds up on their teeth can cause stomache problems that lead to death.
