I just hooked up with, and made a rather long intro, on another site like this one, but what the heck (cept' this one ain't gonna be quite as long!). Dog lover extraordinairre here, I have been around dogs, and dogs have been in our family, since I was born. Muts, purebreds, mean, gentle, large, small, lazy, hyper, we've had one of everything I think. My current dogs are Willie and Comet. I just adopted Willie about, uhh, I don't remember, maybe 8 or 9 months ago? Not long after my beloved Shepherd/Dobie mix was put down. Willie's just plain nuts, I have never had a dog this hyper in my life, maybe the Great Dane comes close, but not quite up to this dog's level. He doesn't jump ON our furniture, he jumps OVER it! He can jump a six foot fence, will run until he's ready to die, hates cats with a passion, doesn't like too many other dogs either. Hey, I can't control everything here, the dog was already 4 and a half when I adopted him and it has taken this long just to get him to settle down on a leash. When I want to make sure he is going to sleep through the night and get all this hyperness out of him, I put on my rollerblades and he will pull me up and down and down and up the streets. I just got through doing that not a half hour ago and he is sound asleep on HIS couch! I dunno what to do about his not liking other dogs, he doesn't have a choice with our other dog.

The other dog's name is Comet. I just adopted him almost two weeks ago from YourMexPet at www.aeropets.com. These people pick these dogs up at the local killing house and off of the streets in Guadalajara, Mexico, take them to the local vet, have shots administered, have them checked out, and when they are sure they are healthy, they bring them up here (via plane to Arizona) to try and adopt them out. I guess they only had the one I adopted for a couple of weeks, he is grossly malnourished. His bones are protruding like sticks being poked through plastic, he is the skinniest dog I have ever seen. He is mostly Rat Terrier. Nice dog, nice demeanor except when Willie comes around wanting to take his food. I'm feeding Comet as much junk as he wants until he put some fat on, then I'm putting him on a healthier diet. I don't know if that's they way it should be done, but I don't want someone calling animal control and reporting me for neglect or some other thing - around here they can take you to jail for such things. Anyway, I am hoping Willie and Comet will take a liking to each other and play together. They aren't fighting now, but they are still deciding who is going to be the dominant dog - and I can be rest assured that that will undoubtedly, in the end, be Willie.

The one thing both of those dogs like to do and will agree on is going for walks! Comet will run his little legs off, and he shows no sign of tiring. Unfortunately, Comet cannot keep up with the roller blades, so I end up going on two "walks". One with Willie and Comet, and then another with Willie and me on the blades.

Anyway, it is obvious after reading numerous posts that there are many animal lovers on this forum. I hope everyone is a "I keep my animal until death due us part" type of owner. I know there are instances where animals and humans must part ways, but I have heard a lot of stories from these animal shelters I went to looking for another dog before I got Comet. Some of the reasons are nothing more, in my opinion, than excuses. Even in Willie's case, the shelter officials said the owners became disinterested in dogs and decided to do "other things". I dunno, I guess I look at my dogs as human family members more than just cute little animals. They have their own personalities, likes and dislikes. Willie loves to "speak" to me, and I love hearing it! Comet just comes and lays down in my lap, lol.

Well, cheers to all you wonderful animal lovers here, and also a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (no offense to those that don't celebrate Christmas).
