Dear John,

Thank You!

As the voice for sea otters, polar bears and other imperiled critters, your actions can -- and do -- make a difference!

Thank you for your help in our latest victory for wildlife and the places it lives!

I’ve got some great news! Thanks to wildlife supporters like you, our coasts and the critters that live there remain protected.

Last night the House voted to keep in place the drilling moratorium that has protected our beaches, sea otters and other marine wildlife for the past 25 years.

This is a huge victory -- and our supporters were crucial. Thousands of you flooded the Capitol switchboard with calls and your actions made a difference. Sea otters, dolphins and manatees are just a few of the many wild animals you helped save.

But Big Oil is not likely to give up -- and neither are we.

Next month, another coastal drilling battle looms as Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA) develops energy legislation that would almost certainly threaten sea otters, manatees, and other marine wildlife. And as early as next week, Big Oil and their allies in the House will once again push for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

You can count on Defenders to keep you informed of these and any other threats to our wildlife and wild places. And I know we can count on you to continue to speak up for sea otters, polar bears and other precious wildlife.

I want to pass along my sincere thanks for all your efforts this past week -- and your continued efforts to protect our wildlife and wild places for our children and grandchildren. You are making a difference. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Rodger Schlickeisen
President
Defenders of Wildlife

It's good for the animals and good for me. Keeps them alive, and keeps oil prices up---yeah! I don't drive much, and I'm invested in several petroleum companies. Yeah!
