My Dog Hisses

Hi all, newbie here.

This is not really a problem - just the strangest (and funniest) thing I've ever seen a dog do.

My Border Collie mix, Cassie, has recently learned to hiss. (we have cats too - I think that's where she picked it up.) She bares her teeth and hisses at the cats or the friendly neighbor dog when she gets annoyed with them and is telling them to leave her alone. She sounds just like a cat when she does it!

My husband figures it because she gets scolded when she growls and so has decided to try hissing instead. LOL! Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? My jaw dropped to the ground the first time I witnessed this.

I've never heard of a hissing dog but how cute!! I'm sure the fact that you have to laugh when she hisses makes her hiss even more! Give her kisses for me.

Oh my goodness...how cuuuuute.....I have never heard of it either but I bet it is a hoot to hear it!

My aunts cat trills like a bird. And my dog when he was a puppy used to scream. Now that wasn't exactally cute, but it was unusual, not a whimper or a whine, a scream. Your dog sounds like it has a very interesting personality. Good find

Thats neat I have never my self heard an dog hiss. What does your cats do when your dog hisses at them?

Well, the 3 old girl biddies just ignore her. But my little gray boy kitty, Indy, lays on his back and gently pats her face. He has a bit of a crush on her.

I too witnessed my dog hissing the other day for the first time and it blew me away. Thats how i found this forum, i was searching to see if this ever happened before. So far this is the only other occurance i have found. In my dogs case she loves to antagonize cats. She is a smart Airedale and is very aware when a cat hisses at her she will back off. She was enjoying an afternoon of this at my sisters place who has 3 cats when suddenly the tables were turned. my sister released their 140 lb 10 month old Great Dane from its cave (crate). After awhile of being chased she was backed into a corner and i was right there and saw her show her teeth in a nasty snarl but the sound she made was a definate hiss!!
