What's your opinion?

Here at my college, yet another problem has arised. We have a ton of rats and they want to kill almost all of them, but like a breeding pair. I have become very attached to the rat I've been using in our fur & feather class (exotics/lab animal class). She has become like a pet to me and I don't want her to be euthanized, but if I can't find someone to adopt her she will be euth'd. I can't take her because I'm living in the dorms and will be during summer and next year also, our dorm doesn't allow pets. I can't seem to find anyone who can take her, and some just don't like rats. I've been considering adopting her and selling her to a pet store, do you think that is a safer option than to just let her be euth'd? I think some nice person will come along and buy her from the pet store. Another problem is she is pregnant so its really hard to find someone wanting to adopt her and the college wants even more to euth her because of being pregnant. If i go stay with my dad for the short summer break i have, i may be able to take her with me and sell her to a pet store there, but if i stay with my mom she won't let me take her home at all. What should I do?

where're you located? If you take the rat to petco or petsmart, they will almost always take it...

Why not just take it to a rescue? There are rodent rescues all over the place, im sure you could probably find one. I wouldn't however give it to a petstore, who knows what they would do with it. I mean, they could give it away to someone who feeds snakes, etc.

What were they doing with all the rats in the first place? Why so many?

I don't have a Petco near me, however maybe a friend of mine could take her to Petco when she goes home where there is one. I would rather find her a pet home so that I don't have to take her to a petstore, I really don't want her to be snake food. I'm looking for a home for her. The petstore will be my last option. At least if she is sold for snake food to someone else I won't know it, I know that's not any better, but what can I really do. The college has a lot of rats because they breed them for snake food and we also use them to practice giving injections, gavage tubes, drawing blood, etc. The rats will be euthanized for snake food and they are only keeping 3 males and 3 females to breed later on. If I don't take her some where she will either be killed or have to remain a breeder until she is killed. She is pregnant (I really felt the babies kicking today, it was amazing!) I don't know if I can find a home for her. My mom won't let me take her home even for a short time so I can find her a home, i can't get to my dad's soon enough to just take her there for awhile, I either have to find a home for her, take her to a pet store or allow her to be killed along with her babies. I could possibly find a rescue somewhere to take her, there are not actual rat rescues that I know of around her, but maybe a shelter around here would take her. Guess I have to figure something out.:(
