Okay, so I went to a shelter sponsored dog walk thing at the park today with some of my fellow vet tech students to do nail trimmings/earcleanings and such. One of the ladies there brought her siberian to the park and I got to spend some time with it, and I realized that I really like siberians. They seems to have a lot of personality, and let's face it, they're just plain gorgeous! I think I would really like to have one. Not right now, of course, I was thinking after I graduate and have the chance to save up the money for one. It is quite a way off from this standpoint, but i want to start collecting as much info as I can before actually getting one. Could anyone give me a little bit of info about them? You know, the usual... Good foods to feed, how to train them, when's the best age to aquire one... what their personality is like... the works. Anything you would like to share would be great!

When my boyfriend and I decided to get a dog he knew right away that we should get a Siberian Husky. I had reservations about big dogs, but I did my research on the internet and I found a lot of information regarding their temperments, how to train them ('cause their working dogs), and what kind of food to feed them. We purchased our first dog (Maverick) from a breeder in Pennsylvania and they couldn't release him until he was 8 weeks old. He flew by plane from Pennsylvania to California. If you decide to pick a local breeder -- I believe they can release them as early as 6 weeks old. Maverick is very calm but still very playful. He is extremely obedient and gets along well with other dogs (big or small). We got lucky so we decided to get him a playmate... her name is Charlie. She's the total opposite of Maverick... she's feisty and always getting into trouble by chewing on shoes and digging in the backyard. She's a little older now... so she's learning and actually starting to understand. So the personality thing really just depends! But do your research on the internet. Here are a few websites I visted:

Good luck!

Hello,
I have a Siberian, named Anuk. She is a wonderful and beautiful dog! She has been completely different than my boys to raise. Her teenage years were a bit of a challenge. She was very willful. She is now very calm and extremely sweet. She loves everyone, especially children! It's a good thing the boys are good guard dogs becuase she would kiss anyone new.:)
I have done a lot of research on Siberians. Anuk has some digestive sensativities that are common with the breed. She always moderates her food and doesn't put on weight. They tend to need a little more protein and a high quality natural food.
You can view pics of her on Merlin's site. www.merlinspetshop.com (http://merlinspetshop.com).
If you want more details just let me know!

I found a great forum for husky owners, the people there were super helpful when I had problems with my pup. Do tons of research on the breed. They are wonderful, but handfuls, especially as pups! Good luck!
