My Hamsters Sick

:( My hamster has Yellowish white stuff comming from his eyes and is acting very lethargic. He is normally hyper. He is just laying around and breathing very shallow. What could this possibly be?

Well, said symptoms sound very much like a respiratory infection. These can be fairly commonly seen in hamsters, and IMMEDIATE vet attention (they will give him antibiotics) is necessary and the only way to make him better properly. If it isn't already, this can easily and quickly turn into a more serious case of pneumonia if not treated early.

I agree with Jennifer...
Hamsters don't usually look sick until they're quite sick. Immediate attention can prevent not only his misery, but his death... contact your area vets to find one who will treat him..

Thanks everyone who tried helping but unfortunately Barry passed away last night. He's actually not my hamster but I told my friend that I was a member in here and she posted the question.

Anyway he passed away in her hands. It was so sad cause he was a good and sweet little baby. Thanks again.

Oh no that's so sad! I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully he didn't suffer for too long. Hamsters are quite hardy critters and I'm sure he was alright up until the end. Too bad he couldn't get to a vet in time, but depending on how old he was, probably just his time.

So sorry about your hamster! It was fast, so he probably didn't suffer much at all, but i know that doesn't help much. Again, sorry he didn't make it...
