I have a four-year old, neutered male, siamese mix cat that I adopted from the SPCA when he was about 6 weeks old. He is strictly an indoor cat, but is not declawed. As he matured into adulthood, he started becoming very aggressive, attacking both my husband and I. It seems that "pecking order" is highly important to him. He quickly recognized that my husband is the "alpha" male of the house, but constantly challenged me for the #2 spot in the house. Most of the time he is very affectionate and is beautiful to look at. He only attacks when you're not looking, in a predatory way, and is very strong. For example, after I came home one day, I was tired, lay down on the sofa to take a short nap, and he bit my eye. I have had many cats and know effective ways of altering bad behavior, but the only thing that worked was bringing in another stray cat. Since he has been able to dominate over the new cat, he no longer attacks me. However, he attacks the other cat viciously almost every day. Now I am expecting our first child. I feel that I cannot risk the cat attacking my child even once. Since the cat is aggressive toward both animals and people, I do not feel I can find another home for him because 1) who would want a cat like that and 2) I don't want a lawsuit for giving someone a dangerous cat. He has enjoyed a very comfortable life, and my solution is to give him a sedative with some tuna, and take him to the vet to be euthanized while he's asleep. He'll never know what happened. I have agonized over this decision, and thinking about it still brings tears, but still feel it is the best of choices available. If someone can think of a better way, please let me know ASAP. This forum is my last hope. The trip to the vet is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
