I have a problem with Buddy..my Mustached Parakeet....It is very disgusting. He has been eating his droppings... I feed him a pelleted diet from Zupreem along with cockatiel/parrot seed mix. Fresh fruit when available. He loves carrots. He has a mineral block too. He gets peanuts and things like that for treats.
I can not figure out why he is doing this!!!!!
HELP :(

Do you have a grate at the bottom of his cage so he can't reach those droppings? I understand that poop still gets on perches, toys, etc., but a grate would definitely help if you don't already have one. Maybe experiment with giving him more fruits/veggies each day. I was just thinking, pellets, seeds, and carrots are all pretty hard foods, so maybe try offering some softer ones, such as vegetable babyfoods, oatmeal, etc. How many peanuts does he get a day? I wouldn't give a bird that size more than one a day probably.

Great idea Jenny. I will try some softer foods. He only gets 1 peanut at cage cleaning time. He has a grate in his cage but I was putting newspapers down to help with cleanups. So I guess I need to take those up huh?
Casegura.......Thanks for your input.....It helps to know Buddy is not alone in this yucky habit....Kinda takes the fun out of *kisses* huh???? lol
