Hi ,
I just adopted a 1 year old basset hound two weeks ago from a rescue center , he was previously a puppy mill rescue. He is the sweetest and the most well behaved dog i have ever owned . The problem i have is he is very shy and timid , but yet loves people and other animal. He trys very hard to play and be friends with my cat , but due to his size he spooks the cat .(he had a puupy to play with at the resuce center).
My question is , i have just found another full basset hound in another shelter who is in need of emmidiate adoption .I have read several articals that say that basset hound are better in pairs of two for the compainionship. Would adpotiong another basset hound this soon be a wise idea ? Any advise would be helpful. The other bassett is an adult.
Thank you

I say go for it, I have always thought that animals should have a companion of their own kind.

Hi!, welcome and big hugs to you for adopting a rescue!!!!. I also say go for it if you're up to having two dogs. I've always had more than one (all rescues, plus fosters).... they keep each other company and love having playmates. Good luck!!!!!

I have gone through the same thing. I currently have 3 Bassett hounds (2 from rescues). They will do well with pairs, but be reminded that one of them will become the dominiant one. The only issue is at feeding time, I have to seperate them or the dominiant one will scarf down all the food.

I agree, As long as you can care for them both. go for it. sounds like 2 dogs will have a great home :)

I also assume there spay/neutered.
