In my opinion Puggles are just fine as long as you adopt one of the tons of them off of PetFinders from rescues and shelters. Do not pay a BYB or puppymill $800 - $1000 (or whatever the ridiculous price is for these mixed breeds) to produce any more of these "designer" crossbreeds. There are just way too many of them that have been dumped at the shelters. I do not know what state you live in but here is a search to start.

Now they have puggles?????? What next? Cute little buggers aren't they. I knew of the jugs and the porky's. They are just way out of line. I think it has become a contest as to who can come up with the corniest name.

Go to a shelter and pay anywhere from 50-125 for yourself a designer dog that somebody else didn't want after they got it! As a rule, you have better luck with them as they are healthy before the shelter lets them go. They will also include the spaying/neutering in the price or give you a voucher for you to have it done. These designer dogs are cute, but I can't see paying that kind of money for something that is still just a mutt! Maybe you will get lucky and get a dog like we did that doesn't bark!! For whatever reason, she never ever barks. Whines softly sometimes, but never barks! Constant companion, quiet, loving, easily housebroken. I think for $45 I got a real deal!! Of course, if the complex is very quiet, you might do better going with a cat.

Correct Lady Pirate, puggles or any other mixed breed is going to have characteristics of both. You are actually paying a high price for (and dont be offended here) a Mutt!!! There are so many breeds they call designer breeds now (my daughter works in a pet store part-time) and you really dont know the temperament or medical history of these animals.
Go to a shelter like Lady Pirate said. They will have their shots, be spayed or neutered, in my states microchipped too. You'll feel a lot better knowing you rescued an appreciative pup.

does this mean you will go to the shelter? YEAH!!!!! you should take your girlfriend as a surprise. That would be so awesome. Check on line for the requirements to adopt before you go so you don't loose a dog you may find and want to adopt. Shelters are great because they offer low cost obedience and are offering free information - they will explain the average vet costs etc.
there are also a bunch of on-line resources like petfiner and pets911
