mini doxie went crazy

i was at the supermarket and picked up one of the meat flavored bones from the butcher area as a treat for my dog. When I gave it to him , it made him insane! He ran with it right to his crate and anytime you went near the crate or the bone he would growl at you and try to bite you. He went after one of my kids who walked near the crate. My husband had to hold him down while i threw the bone away. He never acted like this with the regular rawhide bones or with any food. Any thoughts on what was going on. As of now we will never get these bones again.

I think he really, really, really liked that bone and didn't want to risk anyone taking it from him. definitely stay away from those in the future. Definite food aggression at work there!

My dog does that with certain treats too. She sits on top of the bone and growls at anyone who is near. I threw the rest of them away. :-)

my dogs have never done that before. but we just inherited a mini-doxie too. so i will make sure to be on the look-out. thanx!

I have had a doxie do that, she bit at my boys if she had treats so we had to be careful... she even lept at them if they even thought of coming close to her.

The doxie I have now, will act like she is going to get you when she gets a new toy but i have told he no and to be nice and she has gotten much better.

She is more worried about finding a place to hide a treat so she can eat it later that attacking any one.:)
