So, my cat's always been picky about her litter box, but she usually pees on clothing if she doesn't like it. Today I found out that she peed on my shoes! Not cool, but I noticed on one of my plastic sandals that the pee was red; well, not completely red, a reddish-brown. I know that when she peed last night the urine was normal colored. She's not in any pain at all, and is her normal self. I'm obviously worried, but I'm glad to know that she's acting normally and is eating the same. Could this problem be the litter or food she is eating, or what? Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I thnk you should get a urine sample ASAP and get it to the vet - call hte vet an ask when they can se her. It can be a urinary tract infection or stones. Stones in females are usually passable and can be no issue - you may never know but once there is blood in the urine she has a chance of an infection and may need antibiotics. If this is the case, she may from time to time need antibiotics.
Line her litterbox with a plastic bag and no litter!!!!!! that can burn and you need a sample that can be run at the vet so no litter. If you have to, use a small amount os shredded news paper (not colored, only black and white)
other option, is she in heat?or is she spayed?

She's spayed. The only problem is I don't think she'll pee without litter in her box. I hate that she's so picky!

she will when she has to - pu her in the bathroom away from the other pets and she will do it. you should call and see if they can run the urine sample and schedule a normal appointment today if possible - should not have to be an emergency visit with extra charges -
with stones, if this is the case, they will see crystalls in the urine and you may need to put her on a low protein diet or special food and she should be a-ok. keeping her isolated will be good for her right now until you know what the issue is, she can rest.

Could it be coloring from your sandals mix with the urine, the urine could have made dye in the sandals bleed through.
If not, then you should get her to a vet, color like that in urine could be serious.

It might not be blood either, darker urine can mean diabetes too, or dehydration. Certain foods can change the color of the urine but I'd take her to a vet, they'll get a urine sample from her using a catheter if they have to.
Better safe than sorry!!
