Jessie, I travel a great deal with my dogs and in the last 10 or so years have had great success. For roadtrips, most motels accept dogs, particularly if they cater to truckers! Some of the mainstream motels don't. If they say "kid friendly" they probably aren't dog friendly, but it's worth asking. You may be charged a small fee ($5-10) per pet but most of the time it is refundable after they check your room. You will not be able typically to leave your dog(s) alone in the room. Pet friendly motels usually have a close by area that you can walk your dog. Be aware that some motels will let you have dogs but you have to stay in a smoking room.

There are a number of websites that have dog friendly hotel/motel listings but call first. I have run into problems with lodging that was listed as pet friendly but decided not too because of some problem.

Also check out AAA travel books -- they're free if you're a AAA member; otherwise, I'd imagine you can buy them. We used these when we were traveling from Oregon to Texas, and they indicate whether motels allow pets, if they charge a fee, and if they only allow pets in smoking rooms.

*sigh* I don't know why but most of the sites always cater only to Americans and Canadians. Couldn't somebody do another region for once?

AAA publishes a book specifically about this... I saw it just the other day.
You can probably find it on Amazon.

thank you becky for replying..I found that some HOliday Inns take pets, and does Vagabond..Some websites are not updated and do not take pets altho they say they do.
If motel has outside door I just bring her in..its people who make messes not pets..
I was surprised to see how un pet friendly the east coast was compared to west coast..
Thank you again, Jessie
