My cat has a wierd sore on her paw and it's been there for months. She never seemed to be bothered by it before but now I'm noticing she is favoring it more. It's about pea-sized and puffy around the edges, the middle looks open but scabbed. I'm wondering if she is just constantly licking it and not letting it heal.
Has anyone ever encountered this before?

I would take her into the vet and have it professionally diagnosed. Any abnormal growth should be examined by a doctor. The scab could be from her licking it, but who knows. Good luck and please keep us posted on her.;)
sometimes abcesses form and because animals have a much higher thresh hold of pain we tend to ignore this this is what happened to me when my cat started constantley washing one side of her face i took her to the vet and it was an abcess from whatever cause but when the vet alliveated this a different cat emerged they hide pain much better than we do just a thought

I agree with Magnum, have a doctor look at it. Better safe than sorry.

Myrage, how is your cat doing? Did you consult a vet? Just concerned.

I would get her to the vet, too.
She could have gotten a splinter of wood, glass, or metal deep under the skin. If so, it would scab over, and she'd leave it alone until it started getting infected. She could get an infection deep under the skin, which is very dangerous and could kill her.
It could also be cancer, although this is less likely than an abcess or cyst.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I had a friend look at it and she said it looks like an abcess. Her cat got them all of the time. I'm going to try and treat it with disinfectant and cover it up so that she can't lick it. If there is no improvement then I'll definately go to the vet. If there's anymore info I'll let you know. Thanks again!:)
