I have a cat that my daughter brought home when he was 2 days old. We bottle fed him and watched him grow to a whopping 18.8 lbs. Being we got him at such a young age, I am especially bonded to this big guy. However he has started to pee around the house. He has been checked by the vet and given a clean bill of health. He seems to love the rug in my bathroom which I must throw out because now it smells and I can't get it out. I also had to put plastic on my matress because that was a fun place to pee. Yesterday morning when I got up, I found him peeing in my kitchen sink! I am at my wits end. There is no way I could rehome him due to the fact that while he is loving to me and my kids, he'll rip anyones head off who comes in the door so no one would want him. He's only 4 years old and I hate the thought of having to put him down because of this. He is on a good diet and his litter box is always clean. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

it's probably a silly question, but is he neutered?

My 1st question would be ... Is he neutered?

Sorry, I tried to put everything in there like about his diet and clean litter and forgot to add that yes, he is neutered. I'm wondering if maybe he's not had enough of new cats being brought in the house. He doesn't really play with them but the last 3 are all within a year of each other age wise so they play amongst themselves. I know once they start it's very hard to stop but I sure would like to know why he started in the first place!

Hi Too Crazy,

Like I said he sounds jealous to me..
I know when we frist brought the 5 kittens inside last Spring. Our Sparkie was really jealous of them. As they were being bottle fed at the time.

I ask our Vet If there was something we were doing wrong?

Sadly she said there was.. Sparkie was here frist. So we should treat him accordly.. Like if you bring in a new toy let your frist Cat smell it & play with it frist.. Same with Food say his name when you are putting out the food & fresh water.Always say his name frist before the kittens. I hope that makes since to you.
In other words make him feel like the king of the house again like you used too. Or you may end up retrain him again:(

Either that or have him checked out by your Vet again..
I hope this helps you with your kitty. Good Luck!! :)
Keep us updated on what is happening

Isn't this a fun little trick that cats like to pull!?! My cat Marbles, 9 year old, neutered male, got a real kick out of peeing on my bed and in backpacks or duffle bags. Most of the time he did it randomly, but sometimes I know he did it because he was mad a me. When we first moved into our new house he was terrible so, after having him checked by the vet, we retrained him. We got a large dog crate and put in a small litter box, his food, water and a blanket. He had to stay in the crate unless he was being held for the first week, the second week he was allowed out in one room supervised, and the third week he was allowed out in the house, for short periods, supervised. I always left his crate open when he was out so he could use the litter box in it, plus the one in the laundry room. By the fourth week he was only sleeping in the crate at night and then we let him have free reign again. This put a stop to the peeing. This was a year ago and since then he has only had a few "accidents".

Pet OUT! stain and odor remover is the only thing I have found that will remove the urine smell. It is safe on most surfaces and you can use it in the washing machine!

My question is, what kind of litter are you using? My cat is extremely, extremely picky about her litter! If it's not a kind she likes, or if it smells too much, or if there's not enough litter in her box, she will pee somewhere else. Now if he started doing this recently, this may not be the problem, but did you recently buy a new brand of litter? You might want to consider the possibility. Hope that helps!!!

It does sound like some jealousy going on. Also I agree with fzzymom, I had to do something similiar with my cat when I first got it since she was already 2 years old. We confined her in a small place and gradually gave her more and more. Now she hasn't done anything naughty in quite a while.
Hope it all works out!
