Rachel and Derby

Thought I would finally introduce PL to Rachel who I talk of often. Rachel is my sweet, sweet petsitter and like a daughter to me. She has known Bullwinkle since he was a baby. She comes and lives with Bullwinkle, Rockie, and Zoe when I have to travel. They think of her like their second Mom and she takes such good care of them. Rachel is an instructor for hunter/jumper and equitation and she also trains horses. She called and invited Bullwinkle and I to come see her show a new horse the barn just got. His name is Derby and he is pretty green. Derby is a Hanoverian/Thoroughbred cross. Bullwinkle loves going to horse shows...he was raised around horses and loves them. He behaves very well so I can take him to shows, unlike Rockie who would probably terrorize the horses and Zoe who would probably faint at the sight of one. Anyway here is Rachel (on right), Bullwinkle, Derby, and Kathy, who owns Derby and the farm Rachel teaches at.

He's beautiful Jo!! I had to laugh at Bullwinkle in the one pic. Where is his saddle and headstall?..........hahahahaha. What a handsome devil he is! :D

LOL Mags! I get that every horse show I take him to! "Where's his saddle?" "What's he showing in" "He is definitely in the pony class"...LOL!

I'm sure thats why Bullwinkle is so good and feels right at home with the horses... finally a pack he can relate to! hahahahahaha. Great pics Jo, tell Rachel she looks great up on her beautiful stead...steed... however you spell it LOL. :D

LOL Mags -- I was going to say that it was a good thing Jo clarified that Derby was on the left!!!!! Beautiful horse and his Rachel looks so young and tiny to handle Bullwinkle let alone Derby. I am sure she does fine though.

Great pics Jo, Bullwinkle look like he's in very good hands with Rachel. And Derby is very handsome, he looks pretty young, do you know how old he is.

LOL! Rachel is an excellent horse/dog human. She is the only person that can seem to clip Rockie's nails. I can't...PetSmart has banned her, and my vet has to muzzle her. Rach can do it! She was one of my 4-H kids many moons ago and went to college in equine studies but dogs are also a passion of hers. She is just great with animals. A natural. She is 24 now and maturing into a wonderful woman who will dedicate her life to animals. She is the only person who has a nickname for Bullwinkle that he answers to. It is "Wrinkle". He is her "Wrinkle."

isnt it just wonderful to know there are kids like that out there with the same passion and enthusiasam it gives us some hope for the future

I haven't downloaded them all yet but my favorite is to watch the young kids on their ponies! The kids just worship their ponies and take such loving care of them. The ponies all seem to really enjoy the shows too. They still have their winter coats. Here are a couple I shot Saturday:
