Okay, so I need suggestions on GOOD foods that have a hairball controlling substance in them. Its getting close to springtime and my kitty gets REALLY sick with hairballs because she sheds so much. I want to get her on a good diet that will help control those so i can head of the problem before it starts. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I need help with that too! This past two weeks, Lilo has left me SEVERAL little presents around the house. SO GROSS!! I have heard flax seed oil is good for hairballs. I'm getting ready to check that out and see if it works. Lilo is so picky that if you put anything on her food, she normally will not eat it.

From my research, hairballs are best treated with a hairball remedy, such as laxatone (available at the vet or pet stores) in addition to a healthy diet. Most "hairball formulas" come in varieties of cat food that you really wouldn't want to feed your cat. :( Laxatone comes in a tuna flavored formula, my cat isn't crazy about it but I just put it on his tongue and he licks it down. He won't eat it if I mix it with his food. I have heard that some cats like it as a treat...my ferrets lick it right from the tube!!!

My two cats don't ever get hairballs. My cousins cat who lives across the street gets hairballs & she swears by tuna flavored laxotone.:D

My brother's cat (Clarisa) dealt with hairball problems and was eating Iams. When I went out to visit him, I saw the Iams and cringed since I don't care for the ingredients in it. I went to the holistic pet food store and talked to them about getting a good food that has "hairball remedy", or something along those lines, listed on the package to sort of psychologically get the new food past my brother.........lol. Of course, they explained to me that putting a cat on a good quality cat food will naturally help them to pass the hair daily, instead of it binding up in their tummy and causing them to throw it up in a ball. Clarisa has been on Innova Evo for over a month now and hasn't had one hairball tossing episode since.

That's true if a cat is on a good food there should not be much of a hairball problem. Premium Edge is really good at helping to keep away hairballs though along with many others.

I had a brain fart. Lol. I realized that I was already feeding the hairball formula from Premium Edge. I just began feeding it not that long ago, so I forgot that's what they already had. Haha. Thanks for the advice, though.

I've also had good results with Flint River Ranch Hairball Remedy cat food. I buy it through a distributor I found at http://www.picnicpointpets.com
It has really made a difference for my cat, Babe!
