To give Angel a bath we needed to remove her collar:

Hubby patiently preened Angel prior to putting the collar back on:

Oh Diane, she looks so cute. I love wet birdies! :p

Are you able to let her preen herself dry under supervision, or is she still too hard on her feathers for normal preening activities?

Angel gets a special treat for enduring her ordeal:

Oh, guess the new pictures answer my question...lol! What a great way to encourage appropriate preening! ;)

Let me tell you she really got the "SPA" treatment. Two of us to calm and talk to her as we splished - splashed her with water - a very shallow 1/4" in one end of the tub so she could retreat to dry land if she wished. Towel snuggles afterwards, preening, and then the after bath sips from mom's cup.

And of course the continued reassurance that she was OK. What a spoiled creature she is. LOL

No we couldn't allow her to preen herself Yvonne. She reached down to her chest and removed a feather immediately. So I kind of scratched her head now and then to keep her attention away from her chest. It was two feathers that kind of stuck together -- maybe it did need to be removed but she didn't really seem to take time to check it out -- just pull quick before mom stops me.

That's too bad Diane. :( Maybe with hubby showing her how nice it feels to preen w/o plucking she will eventually get the right idea though.

She looks so much better than the early pictures you posted, and she looks "HAPPY!" You've done such a wonderful job with her! :D

Thanks everyone! I just noticed in the very last picture that it almost looks as if she is smiling. It is a good feeling to see her looking so much better. Jan I do hope we can someday remove the collar. Guess only time will tell.

I never saw Angel w/out her collar before, so I hope that someday she doesn't have to wear it anymore. She's such a good girl. :D

Thanks Gina & Mags. I really have to laugh because when we first brought Angel home she was afraid of hubby and would hollar and scream when he would come home. Now she will go out of her way to call to him and visit with him -- then call to me and have me take her back with me. It just amazes me how they get along now and he is so protective of her and on his own assisted me in giving her a bath and drying her afterwards. He kept saying afterwards that he thought she took the bath better from him -- and I have to admit that she did. LOL
