Hello,
im glad to be signed up...i'v never done anything like this before. I am 22 and i just got a new kitten named Jake. my questoin is that i am wondering if anyones kitten has ran from them while on the floor? But yet was very lovable and affectionate while being held or on the bed, couch ect.
If anyone has any insight on how to make him feel more safe and not so scared..please let me know.

Welcome to you kitten. It is possible that he has had some negative experience with feet. Kittens can get underfeet very easily when they are little and even if a person is trying to be careful - a kitten can scoot across the floor and somehow find that he/she is entangled in a persons feet. So, your kitten may just be trying to avoid that experience again.
I have a six month old female kitten laying on my desk top right this minute - purring away as she is almost off to sleep. She was born out in the shop yard and just the past couple of weeks has become tame enough to let us pet her. Once she got that first pet though - she is making up for lost time. She can't seem to get enough love or give enough love. If I leave my office - she follows me down the hall to see where I have gone. This is the first place I have worked that I have had such an experience.
I am worried though. She seems to leave a bit of saliva under her when she gets up from a nap (drool) and today she was coughing a bit. On Monday she is going to get spayed - and I hope this goes well. Someone else on this site took her two kitties (male & female to vet) and the female didn't make it through the operation as she was sick. I just have this uncomfortable feeling ...................... hope everything goes OK.

It could be that there are just sooo many things the cat sees that he wants to explore. I have four cats (the oldest will be 20 years old in May) and they acted like that when they were young. A kitten just can't help himself when it comes to finding things to get into and they are a bundle of hyper energy and need something to do with it.

Hi Kitten, I think your kitten is just being a kitten. When they're little they want to go, go, go. But when they (finally) do poop out, they want love and cuddles. Don't worry, your kitty is normal. I don't think he's scared, I think he feels very secure and thats why he's running around checking things out. If he was scared, he'd be hiding under the bed. I'd like to welcome you and mzdolittle to the board. It's a great place. Diane, maybe ask the vet why your cat is drooling and coughing. They may postpone the spaying. Also, they have this new thing (I forgot what it is) but it costs about $20 and they can monitor your cat while shes under and if something happens they will know it right away and they can do something so nothing happens to her. Let us know how everything goes!

All the kittens that I have ever had will run away while I'm walking towards them, yet come to cuddle when I'm lying or sitting doing nothing (or interrupt me while I'm doing something). Cats will be cats... they do it to please them not you, lol, That is truly my theory on them, but You gotta love them!!

Hi kitten and welcome :)
Yup, I agree... sounds like normal kitten behavior :D
He'll settle down and feel more secure as time goes by.
Please keep us updated and we would love to see pics!.
Good luck Diane with your little one.... I agree with 'too, maybe you should call the vet and let them know whats going prior to the surgery... it may be nothing, but just in case.
Wow mzdolittle... another 20 yr old.. thats wonderful!. We have a member here that also has a 20 yr old cat.
