my old doggie's skin problem

i have a mixed breed german shepard with a bit of a skin problem. she;s kinda old. about 8 years. she's been having a skin problem on her back especially. its kind of like dandruff but a little bit bigger. i dont know what to do and my dad said its nothing so he wont bring her to the vet. is this a big problem? what should i do? and one more thing, her ears are having some kind of skin problem too. my mother said its too much dried up earwax. i tried using a damp cotton but to slowly wipe them off, but its not really working. its all in her ear and on the pinna too! please give me advice, thank you!

Welcome to the board! I don't know much about skin infections but I would be very concerned about mange. Does the dog itch these areas? Maybe someone else can come along with some advice but all I can say is this dog does need to see a vet asap!

Sounds like allergies (my guess because of the added info on the ear troubles) that lead to a skin infection, but it is best to get a sking sraping to rule out mange and have a vet make the diagnosis.
