I have read that you need to ween dogs off old food and on to the new food gradually from everywhere and everyone, but I want to get Codee off heart attack in a can pedigree he's my family dog and lives w/ my parents I was wondering if I was to stop feeding him canned food altogether and prepared his meals for him would he get sick? He gets meals prepared for him at least once a week as it is and gets loads of table scraps. If I were to prepare meals for him and give him a little dry food would that be ok? And if so what meats and foods shouled I get and how should I prepare them?

I just spent over two weeks switching dog foods, gradually mixing in more and more of the new food. Even at that Bullwinkle had a bit of diarrhea for a couple of days. It is important to do it this way (yes...even with Pedigree) because a lot of dogs will react with diarrhea and other symptoms with a quick, drastic change.

As far as creating your own, homemad diet for your dog you will need to do tons of research before going that route. There are many books and websites that explain nutritional requirements, food preparation, etc. It is not as easy as it sounds if you want to do it right.
