When my mom's chihuahua gets excited, he makes a strange noise in his throat and has problems breathing. One vet said his palate needed laser surgery, another vet said he was sneezing in, instead of out thru his nose. Does anyone else's dog have this problem?

Chihuahuas have got to be one of the cutest creatures called a dog. I don't have one but I know they have all sorts of problems with shaking and making pitiful noises. Does it sound like he's wheezing? Doesn't it just make you want to hold him constantly? I know that's what I'd want to be doing.

Hope the little guy is okay. Please keep us posted on whatever you find out.

Respiratory problems are very common in Chihuahuas. My neighbors sister has two chihuahuas, one of which has the same problem. When she gets overexcited, she makes a wheezing noise, and after a minute or so, she's fine. She says that the dog has asthma, though I'm not exactly sure. I would contact the breeder that you got the dog from, and get the name of the veterinarian that cares for their dogs. If this cannot be done, continue to get the opinions from several vets. before you put your dog through major surgery(in my eyes, any surgery on a 5 pound animal is major). Good luck, and let us know what happens.

Birdzila...I do not know either but we have a vet who joined the forum and I know he can help you. Go to the New Members section and you can pm him there! Good Luck

My Chihuahua " Molly " Does something like that. But I don't know if its from her being excited or not. The vet I take her to says its allergys. When she does this I have to rub her side to calm her down. Then shes ok. Or I let her outside an minute and shes fine. It really scares me when she does this.
