we lost clancy last night one of our horses at the barn. When I got there he way lying on his side breathing was bad. there were 1 woman & 2 girls there. one of the girls said she found him like that around 4 I got there ast 4:30 followed by Gwen the barns owner then Clancys owner Amy.

We noticed blood coming from around his shoulder area. So we got him turned over and he had a puncture wound! When the vet finally got there he gave clancy a shot, and after about 10 minutes we got him to his feet. thats when we know something was really wrong. he would not put any weight on that leg at all ( the same one with the puncture wound.) The vet looked at it and ask if anybody did any type shooting around there, (the owners of the land allow hunters) that the first thing I thought. One of the *^#@#& hunters shot him! Vet felt around the top of the leg around the shoulder, and I saw the look on his face, he looked at Gwen and just shook his head no. broken leg.

what got to me was me & Gwen had to get him to hopple all the way to get outside the gate so he could be picked up my the backho in the morning. And where the vet could put him down. Once we got there I had to leave.I didn't stick around. Amy was taking it hard.

I know the horse wasn't mine per say.. but as often as I work there they all feel like mind. I didn't take it well either.

Later that night around 8 Gwen called and told me it the wound was not caused by a bullet. found splinters of wood in his shoulder. So as far a they can tell right now he might have fallin or maybe kicked by another horse.Dont' really matter as long as it wasn't from a hunter.

Clancy was 21 he was old and had a hard time walking, he was always the last one in at night when we brought them up from the feilds LOL. I always took him aside to make sure he got to eat by himself and got extra feed.

He should be there now. I can see him running now!! Mane just flying.

Goodby Clancy.. enjoy you new home my friend.

WOW, how sad, but yes it does sound like this was his time to go. 21 years is a nice filled-in life for a horse, and I'm thankful it wasn't a bullet as well. I think I would be just crushed forever. I know what you mean about the horse not being "yours" pursay, I worked at a 45-horse barn in New York, and I would stay up with this sick one all night (I lived on the barn premises) and I would lay by his side trying to be strong until the vet arrived. I know exactly what you mean. I don't know what I would do if I knew I had to put a horse down, I've never been through that. I'm so sorry for your loss John, but at least he had a long <hopefully> happy lifetime, and he is happier than he will ever be now.

Take care,
Jennifer

Thanks.
Yeah He had a pretty good life. Born, Lived & Died at the stable. He had 2 owners, both were great with him.

Sad Story John, I'm Sorry About Clancy, I Know How You Feel, Been There And Done That To. I Hate To See Any Animal In Pain, But When It Is The Large Strong Animals It Seems To Be More Heartbreaking.
