Hi we just recently recieved as a gift two B/G Mccaws Noha is 4 and Jasmine is 5 Yrs. old. We have had so much fun with these two additions to our family. Our dogs aren't to sure of them yet. They tell the dogs to shut up and go lay down. Jasmine is a plucker he seems to be a happy bird and we have plenty in his cage but I'm not sure why he does this. Is it normal for them to scratch all the time or should I do something? Help. He looks like a plucked chicken getting ready for the oven. He's still a beautiful bird in our eyes. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks Kim

Welcome to Petlovers Kim and WOW what a wonderfull gift of 2 Blue & Golds,,how lucky you are! I understand about the feather picking....I have a Quaker whose is a chronic picker and we have learned to live with it....but only after we have exhausted all our avenues first. There is a great article submitted by one of our members jonesy zoo and it is here in this section so I hope you can find some answers there but keep in mind...a good avian vet check must always come first. Hope you enjoy Petlovers and again..welcome!

Hi Kim Welcome to Petlovers! Congrats on your new additions. Can't wait to see pictures. I have a plucking quaker as well. Hers is behavioral. An avian vet check is the only way to go to rule out physical causes just like Krazy said. When you are sure your big lovely bird isn't sick you can go from there. Good luck. My dog is scared of my little quaker. That is so funny how they yell at the dogs!

i agree with what others have to say.. lol about taking 'em to the vet to rule out other possibility first.

Congrats on your new fids!. B&G's are awesome birds. I agree with the others, I would take them to an avian vet for check-ups and bloodwork to rule out any medical problems. Birds should have check-ups at least once a year. They should also get baths regularly. Good luck and fun with your babies. :D

Congrats on two wonderful gifts! They are great birds and will entertain you so much with their antics. We have a B&G names Taz and I can't remember life without him. Except we had a bit more room in our home. LOL
Pictures please!
