My cat has been sleeping more than usual lately and it is a very deep sleep. She is normally very loving but recently she has stopped purring and lets out the most pitiful meow when we pick her up (but she only does this occasionally). She has been eating normally and is an inside cat. A roommate brought back his cat two days ago (one of her kittens, now a year old) and they usually get a long pretty well. Do you think she is sick or just upset about her kitten being brought back (they haven't seen each other for about 2 months)? Thanks in advance for any information!

cats sleep a lot - if i's been a while since she's seen a vet, it wouldn't hurt for a routine exam

It has been about 6 months since she has been to the vet and about a year since she had her shots. So she is due for her shots again but because where we live we are not suppose to have pets we were planning to wait until we move in May to take her for those.

Take her to the vet. She may need medical attention. Cats don't often let you know they're sick or in pain and so I would take her to the vet. When one of mine isn't acting as she/he normally does I watch and then decide whether to go to the vet or not but we often go anyway just to be cautious.

you could at least call a vet - let them know she is tired and sleeping more than normal and see what they have to say? is she spayed? is the other cat neutered?

She was spayed about six months ago. I think the problem is that her kitten is back but we will probably give the vet a call.

Or maybe just give her time. Some things to consider as to why cats increase their sleeping is weather...has it recently gottne colder where you live?

If she's meowing when you pick her up, is she telling you she hurts, or the "your disturbing me " meow?

If she is eating well, her "cat litter products" havent changed, not throwing up then are there really worries?

What about age? Don't most cats maybe slow down a bit as they age?
When you take her for her shots, maybe you can just mention the change to the vet.

Actually it has gotten warmer over the past few weeks. Weird I know for this time of the year.

When she meows when we pick her up is sounds to us like pain but she has not done it for about 3 day now.

She still is not eating a lot compared to what she did a few months ago. She has not been getting sick and I have noticed not difference in her litter.

As for age she is only about a year and a half to two years we think. She was a stray and we adopted her in September of 04 when she was not quite full grown and very thin (starving).

Pets are precious to us and therefore should be no reason to take a chance. So please take her to the vet. 1 1/2 years is very young for a cat and she certainly sounds like there is a problem.

Well everything checked out ok. She is just a little chunky. The vet said being reintroduced to her child again after a few months apart is probably what caused the mood swing.
