Serves him right! He couldn't just release it outside unharmed? Why throw the poor thing into a fire? What goes around comes around. :)

No Pitty here from me!!

what i think is riduculous, is that if he would have done that to a dog or cat, he would have been in a lot of trouble. but, since its just a little mouse, he gets off scottfree. burning ANY animal is absolutely disgusting! i can only pray that the poor mouse didnt suffer that long.

My question: Will insurance cover damages to his house, if he even has insurance?

Didn't say. But how do you explain it to the insurance company!.
personally I hope he didn't have insurance.

I can't believe they think it's okay to burn an animal alive. Like Amstaff said, what if it was a dog or cat? That is crazy!! I even hate those darn traps that smash the poor things, or the one's that are glue and they stick to them until they starve to death or get their little nose stuck in it and suffocate.:(

as horrible as this sounds...I see this as divine justice...yes nobody likes wild mice but there are more humane ways to end a life...they say revenge is sweet....I think the mouse got his revenge may have cost him his life but gosh what a way to go....

Poor mouse but I'm glad the guys house burnt down down. What kind of cold hearted person could throw a live critter in a fire??

That is terrible. Yay for that mousie! I have to say we had a bad problem with rats. When we lived in our RV during the rebuiling after hurricane. They were everywhere. In my cloths drawers. We tried trapping and releasing far out in the swamp but they made it back somehow. We ended up using the old standard traps. They are quick. I feel bad about it but it was them or us. I guess they got the message because we haven't seen one. We had to kill 8 of them. They are so cute and smart but they carry disease sometimes when in the wild.

So i will update you on this case as i hear the news of the local everyday.

the report the alleged mouse burner gave last night was that the mouse was dead and he threw the mouse and trap in the fire and the leaves that blew from the fire to the house was what started the fire.

I found the story "humorous" in a "thats unusual" way (dont yell at me, i wasnt laughing at the mouse) Sorry, I didnt feel sorry for the mouse. I myself have been known to relocate mice found around my property (to a nearby arroyo). I dont know how it is in other states, but Janta Virus runs prevalent here in New Mexico. We havent had any decent moisture to keep the rodent population to a regular reproduction cycle...so many New Mexicans are rodent fearful.

Mind you, I have located live mice....mostly the smaller little guys that are a bit easier to catch. The larger ones aren't so easy and are a little more thoughtful about which holes they dive into (particularly live trap holes) , and rather than leaving the larger ones in my home to breed many more mice to leave droppings; increasing my and my childrens, my dogs and my cats chances of contracting Janta virus; by using the live traps, I have to use the "squashing" traps. (i dont know if my fur babies can contract Janta virus, but just ask Bonita....you never know....do you?)

In this case, my childrens and my health and my immediate fur family are more important than a small cross section of the rodent population. sometimes things need to be kept in perspective and remember, there is always a gray area (there is no way to get rid of the gray areas, thank goodness, my brain needs all the matter it can get)

Now this is a smart human being, taking humans as well as the animals suffering into consideration.

yeah, he's now changing his story for insurance purposes....does anybody else see that???

the reports that go to the insurance will have a fire response team report signed by the fire chief. Its a regular thing here in NM with the wind and dry conditions being responsible for most fires.

years ago, Sarah was just a lil gal and cole was in the baby swing at the time.
I was out burning creeper vine. I lived in Meadowlake at the time, at the base of the manzano moutains. The air was still, but out of nowhere the wind kicked up, and I lost control of my fire and burned 3 acres of land, some of it BLM. A very frightening experience for me.
Another incident, also nationally broadcasted, was the Los Alamos fire, which was accidentally set by our very own government in a test burn. Several families were out of homes during that time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would think the mouse was dead, the guy is 81, and I a 40 year old have problems catching a mouse. And, unless his insurance company are animal rights activists, I doubt him changing his story would change the fact that over years of ownership, the man paid for homeowners insurance for accidents such as this.

Do you think that if some young kid ran his car into his parents tree and the tree fell on their house that the insurance company would not pay because it was their fault?
No, I don't think the changed story was for insurance purposes. .....but that kind of rumor sure will fuel the fire in this forum.

One more gray area to think of besides the cruelty to a mouse, I'm glad it didnt happen to my 77 year old mother.

I read one account that said the old guy didn't even have insurance. I do have a mouse story that some of you may flame me for, but it's funny and ironic at the same time.

My kids were always taught to respect life, so even though we have had mice from time to time, we never used deadly traps to get rid of them. My daughter opened up a box of kitty food one day only to find a little mousie in it. My daughter has amazing reflexes and usually thinks well in a crisis.

In less time than it takes to tell, she closed the box and trapped the mouse inside. She was going to take it out to the fields to set loose, thereby ridding us of a pest and at the same time saving the mouse. She marched way out in the fields, set the box on the ground, and opened the lid.

The unfortunate mouse popped right out like a small grey missile. Now the mouse could have run off in any direction, but as fate would have it, it took off right at my daughter. Now some of you probably know how this is going to end, but remember when I told you about my daughter's reflexes? Yep, when that mouse shot right at her, those reflexes went to work and she stomped on it before it got her.:(

Old dad did his best but there was no bringing it back that time. She was immediately heartbroken, but I couldn't be too mad at her. We gave it a very nice funeral.

Reflexes are not something we have full control over. It's not like your daughter planned it...heck, she tried to save it's life.:(

We laugh about it now, but at the time it was a real tragedy.

Why didn't the man just capture the little guy and toss him outside? Much more humane and much safer than getting your house burned down;)
