Well, I havent been on the forum for a while as I realize that I have not announced the arrival of our newest family member.....Kuzco...the emporer scorpion.

My daughter wanted one for quite sometime and i agreed as long as she did her research. She spent from June til her Birthday in Oct during her research..That is what she chose for her birthday.

She loves that critter like its furry. Carries it around. I like it too. Just not too closely.
And I've had to develop a habit of asking her if there is a scorpion on her person before I hug her. I had the unfortunate scare of hugging her from behind when i came in from work only to get a laughing warning of "you might want to look out for the scorpion on my back Mom"

Kuzco looked like a male when we got her, but her shell has given way to the soft membrane inbetween each section. She's a girl. since she's gotten so fat in the past month, we're thinking she's a girl who's about to have babies (well, in 6 months or so)

Hello Kuzco!

I have never come in contact with a scorpion... I think I might have seen one in a cage somewhere. I don't know anything about them, I thought they were poisonous. Or are they like snakes? Only certain types are poisonous...?

actually, they all have a venom. But some have a stronger venom than others.
A rule of thumb,
The bigger the pedpals (pinchers) the less potent the venom.
Emporer scorps prefer to use their pincers to capture prey and they tear the prey to kill and eat. They will sting, but only if backed in a corner (as with most animals). My daughter has been stung once, she said it felt like a bee sting (which is what was reported and researched before we got Kuzco). The only way that the emporer could be of danger if is someone has an allergic reaction.
