My Border Collie puppy is about six months old and ever since we got him he would lick. We thought it was just normal puppy behaivour but it's been going on for ages and it's not just your face, it's everything! Clothes, floor, cupboards, air, everything! His teeth are not too good either and someone said that he had a big head too. He has half a blue eye as well but there's nothing wrong with that.

We've discouraged it since he started but nothings good. He's digging as well but that is normal puppy behaivour and he will stop eventually. He is loved lots too but I'm just not sure what has caused it and how to stop it.

We've tried putting stuff that he doesn't like around but no luck.

Help please!

AAAWWW he just loves his home so much it has become a habit so young at only six months to give u a lick or anybody, let him stay friendly the first year then be bad and bark or bite. Licking can be controlled but I would no worry about it till he has established a pattern of good behavior so let him lick just try and let him know not so much, hand him a toy and Bless his heart by a hug and a thank you. He will quit, he is just a puppy so happy much better than jumping up to bite or nip, a good do you have and I will take licking any day the first year, bear with the pet and start to stop it soon as he starts to mature by just handing a toy and louder and firmer say NO NO MORE. Pet and praise him for being such a good dog, lucky you he is not barking and biting.

You and your pup are not alone. Here are a couple of the threads we have had here:

Thanks.

He is a darling and he'll soon grow out of it but just on his forearms is where a large brown patches are starting to form because he chews and licks there a lot. I hear from my mum that it is because they have acne and it should stop soon. I hope so.
