My dog was operated on yesterday, he got his rear dewclaws off and a tumor removed off of his forehead. I have questions.
I just took off the bandages from the dewclaws, they are still bleeding a little are they ok and is it ok that he licks them?
He had an E collar on but somehow pulled it off and ate it and I am not paying another $20 for him to do it again!!

He should not be licking them, can u get some quick stop at a pet shop, stops bleeding immediately and cheap.? Keep them clean also. If he bleeds too much u might need to get some and dip them in it. He migh then stop also. Good Luck.

I gave him his kong with peanut butter and that seems to occupy him and now hes sleeping, I have to work tomorrow so my hubby is going to have to keep a good eye on him!! and I will go and get that stuff you suggested. They told me to remove the bandages I think it would have been better to leave them on, maybe I should rewrap them?

You should find a way to put the collar back on if you can...unless he destroyed it of course. He should not lick the sutures, if he pulls them out, that is a very hard place to re-suture. There is not much skin to pull together there. If they are oozing a lot you might just put a light wrap around them for another day. Don't wrap too tightly though. You could make his foot swell.
I don't think I would use stop quick there, it is a cautery and may burn the skin, it may not heal as nicely. It will also hurt A LOT.
Diluted betadine is a good disinfectant, doesn't hurt much and will even absorb a little.
Sorry he has to go through all this.

He destroyed that collar, I still can't figure out how he got it off!! As long as he's got his Kong he doesn't seem to bother them and they don't look like they are bleeding anymore. He just has to stay in his crate, he won't sit down and relax!!

hi sweeps, what breed is your dog - is he mixed with a pit bull? i have a dog, murphy, a mixed pit bull (a big baby) that has had tumor removals as well. she now has one that can't be removed and the outlook is not good. i'm asking because murphy had one removed from her forehead also.
love and prayers that your baby is well real soon. jane
