Well it's been almost a month now that Miss Luna has been running me ragged , lol. She was terribly underweight when I got her home and wasn't overly interested in the canned food the shelter recommended.
Thankfully she quickly fell in love with my fathers oatmeal and the attending milk as well but I don't want her to have too much milk as it has given the Pyackers (runny poops to you foreigners) to dogs I have owned or known in the past.
One question of you all if I may and I apologise if this subject has been covered already in this place - Fresh Raw Meat as opposed to the Canned and dry commercial varieties?? A balanced mixture of both perhaps?? Vegetables as well maybe??
Here's the thing, Luna isn't a real fussy eater but she likes some things over others and only likes certain types of canned food (the most expensive of COURSE!!) and she doesn't like dry food of any kind at all. I have just started her on raw bones I get from my butcher but no big leg bones coz she's only little. She has been eating raw sheep ribs cut in half with plenty of meat left on them for her to gnaw and gnash at and she truly adores them but hasn't managed to eat much of the bones themselves, which probably isn't a bad thing maybe?? Anyhoo she quickly polishes all vestiges of meat off the bones and then chews happily for hours on the denuded rib and wears each end down a tad after a while. It sure gives me a break for a few hours , hehe.
Anyhoo there it is , just wondered about what kind of diet I should be feeding the little girly and any suggestions as to what to avoid and what to make sure she does get to eat and in what quantaties and such. She does like minced beef , raw of course and her fav meal is raw minced beef with an egg mixed in. Of course being little she can't eat huge meals and being a small dog full of energy she burns up what she eats so quickly with all her running around, BUT she has gained some weight and I had to let her walking harness out a notch yesterday (I was SOOOOOOOOO proud , lol).
But Luna is doing very well up here in the hot country, better than me anyhoo. I sense her past may have not been full of fun and giggles as she is so appreciative of any act of kindness and quickly flips onto her back and awaits a tummy rub whenever any member of the family comes home at the end of the day. Of course she is a total lap dog and just loves curling up in a nice soft lap at the end of a hard day guarding the dwelling from any and all who dare invade her patch, or indeed happen to walk past or drive past or even look like they are entering our street , lmao.
I have many neices and nephews who walk her and play with her and keep her company during the day (school holidays here over Xmas). So she is getting plenty of exercise which is keeping her weight under control I suspect.

And happy Xmas and New Year to all of you and yours and may your dreams be realised and your fears be banished and may health and happiness and prosperity find you always.

Phoenix & Miss Luna (now 11 months of age, yay!!).

I know nothing about feeding dogs other than what I read on here. I know what Lucy likes to eat, and let's just say, SHE'S SPOILED!! I think the raw diet is probably okay if that's the way you want to go. I know a lot of people feed their dogs that way. However, there are people on here who know way more than I do about feeding your dog. I just posted to say that your dog sounds wonderful! What kind of dog is she? Lucy is a mixture of many dogs apparently. She THINKS she is a lap dog, but she really isn't. If she sits in your lap, forget about seeing anything else! I'm trying to train her to just put her head in my lap, but she thinks that isn't quite close enough! She had a rough life before we got her and she still has a lot of fears left in her. Some will probably always be there, but she has come a long, long way since we adopted her in August. I would like to get another dog, one like Luna seems to be, but I don't think the time is right. I want to make sure Lucy is okay with it and I don't think she would be right now. Enjoy your sweet puppy!
