Awwww, those are cute pictures of Taco! He looks so cute rolling on the ground chewing his harness. LOL :D
I'm so jealous of you right now because you have warm enough weather to still be able to take Taco out to the park. It's been so cold and rainy here for the last month ... so Rio has been stuck indoors. (Well, except when I take her for a drive or to the pet shop to go shopping with me).

Taco is so handsome in his harness. By the pictures he looks so big, too.
The other day, my sister and I took out Marcels "red" flight suit and showed it to him. To my surprise he didn't
"freak out" as much as the last time he saw it. Maybe he will accept it, maybe not, but I will take it out from time to time and show him, then hopefully I'll be able to get it on him without losing any digits.
I would love to get him to wear it so I can take him out and about like you and Amanda.
Hopefully sometime soon.
:)

Great pictures birdgirl. I agree with Amanda, I too am jealous that you still have warm enough weather to take Taco out. It is rainy and damp and blah here in Northern NJ.

I love your pics of Taco. He is so cute. Hayley does the same thing when I put the flight suit on her. She can't seem to stop chewing it. She's gotten a little better about it though. I'm sure Taco will too. You seem to be making alot of progress with him and the harness. I just love Taco. Give him a peanut for me.
LOL. This is off topic but I just heard Hayley scream "EWW!!!" from the other room. It was so funny.
birdgirl
11-05-2003, 07:37 PM
does EWW count as a word? if so that makes 2 words Hayley knows right?
I wish it were cold here it's been in the 80's here for the past few days and it's not much fun when you have to walk to work.

80's!!!... Its in the 60's here... I'm also jealous. We had to rotate taking the bird cages outside to clean because it was to cold to take the birds out.. makes for longer cleaning time, plus the birds were mad cause they couldn't go outside.
Those pics of Taco are adorable. Just curious... do you put the harness on him to be double safe he doesnt fly away with his wings clipped?. I see alot of people take their grays out with no harness or flight suits. We also never use these when we take them out. I have heard that birds can still fly even with clipped wings.

I love your pics of Taco!!! I have just become a proud owner of a Grey. He is 9 but has not been worked with very much so I am learning everyday! I long for the day I can get brave enough to try the harness but......I know that is a ways off but sure enjoyed your pictures!!!

Man, I'm jealous of both of you- it's been in the upper 40's here!!! Brrrrrrrrrrr! Very cute pictures of Taco, I'm sure eventually the novelty of it will wear off and he'll stop chewing it. Otherwise, you'd better start a separate piggy bank of money to buy future harnesses with!

Taco looks like he's having fun at the park. I wish I could take Perrin outside. I probably could but I would worry that he would try to fly away.

I use the harness because I've wanted a grey so long that if Taco ever got a way I don't think I would be able to go on living.
Krazy4birds please tell us more about your grey is he a congo or a timneh? I love to hear about people who have adopted older greys :D how long have you had him?
WELCOME to the site!
birdgirl,
taco is so cute in the grass with his harness!! thank you for the photos.

Hi Birdgirl!
I asked you a few questions on another page..I think it was the picture page anyway I have only had my grey...Pepper for about 8 weeks. I loved him at first sight. He is a timneh. I am learning as I go as I do not really know much about his history. He is warming up to me just beautifully. What do you feed your Taco? I think from the pictures he is a timneh also....am I right? I am open to any advice or suggestions go as far as Pepper is concerned...I am wanting to give him as good of a home as possible.
I had an exciting day with my Cockatiels. They were sitting on 5 eggs and the first one has hatched! That is always exciting!!!!!!
I also have a Canary and a Mustached Parakeet......He is gorgeous! I will try to get pictures soon to show. Thank you for the warm welcome...I was invited here by "Too Crazy" who I met on a different website for animals....she is right...this one is MUCH better! I look forward to sharing stories in the future!

Welcome "Krazy"! I'm glad you've joined. I have a green-cheeked conure Kirby, blue-crowned conure Mortie, budgies Little Greeny, Spunky, & Blue, and peach-faced lovebird Scherzo. Have you heard about the "mash diet" that Alicia McWatter came up with? (btw, did anyone know that she recently died? I couldn't believe it when I read that) Anyway, there's a book she's written adn from what I've heard the "Mash diet" is a great diet for greys especially. Also have you read Maggie Wright's book on african greys? It's greyt! So is the "Grey Play Round Table" magazine but it's really expensive, like $6 per issue. You'll have to tell us all about your mustached parakeet since nobody else on here has one! Congratulations on your baby cockatiels as well, that is so exciting. =)

I will look into your suggestions on the books and I have not heard of that magazine either but I will try to find out about it. You are very busy with your bird family I see!!! My daughter is an avid bird lover as we all are here...she has a Quaker named Oliver a Lovebird called Twinkie 2 cockatiels named Bonnie and Nugget 2 Finches (not named yet) a Jeneday called Jedye a Ringneck Parakeet named Jewels and last but not least her newest a 3 month old Goffins Cockatoo named Babydoll......AND 6 CHILDREN with 1 due in December!!!!!!! And of course a husband who is constantly at work to feed all of them...hahaha I just had to tell everyone about her. She is an amazing woman.
As of today I now have another baby hatched there are 3 more eggs so I am anxious to see if they all are fertile! My Mustached Parakeet....Buddy....Is so gorgeous I can't wait to get some pictures to show. I don't have a digital camera but I would love to get one. Her family is from Asia. I found her in a pet store at 4 months old and already had been in 3 different homes. The problem???? I'm not real sure. It took awhile to gain her trust but she is a very loving bird and there is not a doubt in my mind she will be with me for the rest of her days.....I guess I could carry on forever here .......but I won't.
I wanted to ask Birdgirl......How old is your grey???? Is he a bit "nippy" and is he skiddish about putting the harness on?
Thanks Everyone!!!!!!!

WOW your daughter is amazing! all those birds and kids  I guess she doesn't have time to join us here on petlovers?
Taco is 2 years old and yes he is nippy and he is way more then skiddish about getting the harness on although he is getting better.

Can you tell the sex of a grey without the DNA? Have you had Taco from the start? I am very happy with Pepper and his adjusting so well with me sinse he came from a home he was living in sinse he was 4 months old! He has pinched me a couple times and a good old fashioned bite once. OUCH did that hurt but it was my fault so believe I learned real quick what scares him...haha
My daughter gets on the internet occasionally. Her(step) daughter is 16 and a real help with the kids as her own are 9,8,6,,4 and 2.......Jessica has a heart of gold and my daughter is very lucky to have a wonderfull step-daughter.

Hey krazy, glad you decided to join. I knew you'd like it here. Everyone has such great advice! Birdgirl, I don't know what I'm more envious of, your grey or your weather! We here in Mi. are supossed to get our first accumulation of snow tomorrow. I'm in the thumb area but upstate they've already had measurable snowfall. Maybe I could come live with you and enjoy both your weather and your bird.! lol He is beautiful by the way.

Wow Krazy4, 6 kids and a whole lotta birds? I can't imagine having any human kids and I only have two conures, a luvy, and 3 budgies. Whew! About your question on sexing greys, there are some slight visual differences that I've heard on in Congos though I'm not sure if the same applies to Timnehs. Courtney- you know the article on sexing greys in the GPRTable issue you have? Maybe you could post some of those differences it mentioned here. DNA is the most accurate method though and if you want to be 100% sure, I'd go with that since it's not very expensive.

Hey Jenny...
I don't think there is an avian vet within a hundred miles of me!lol
It's really not a big deal sinse I love him either way and there is no breeding in his future....notice how when we don't know.. we always say he????? Hmmm I remember doing that with my own human children...lol I was just curious.
How in the world do I get my emoticons to work????? I found them (finally) But I click on them.....nothing. I did figure out how to add the pictures but the one I wanted to use was too big.
I need to find a vet but we are 100 miles in every direction to a town big enough to have one. My local vet does not deal with birds....so I am really in a fix here.
Jenny

Too bad about not having an avian vet around. I don't know what I'd do without mine! As far as sexing goes there are some places where you just send in a few feathers in the mail to a company. I believe some people here have done that recently and are just waiting for the results, so they can tell you more about it.
Wow ,Taco is a fine looking grey and has a good mommy who
know best ...Oh yeah 20's here NYC ,pic's are great!Mj

I went back on our conversations and I saw where I got mixed up. You told me he was 2 and I guess I assumed you had him all along. He is a beautifull grey!!!!! I am crazy about Pepper. He seems like he is going to be very good tempered. I do not push anything right now except the step up command. I just let him do his thing as long as he is being good and every chance I get I sneak in a rub on his back. We need to get used to each other so he knows he can trust me before I ask for to much out of him.
How are things going with Taco and your mom? I do hope things are improving!
I have a non pet related question? How come I can not get my emoticons to work? I click on them and nothing happens. Any ideas?

Looking at those pics you can just see Taco's brain saying "...let's see, how do I get out of this? It loops here and attaches there...hmm, how did Houdini do it?"
Handsome bird!
