I was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion for which type of food I should put my cats on. Since we moved a couple months ago they have gotten very chubby. I want to put them on something to control their weight and maybe help them lose some.
Right now they are on Purina Vitality, and between the 3 of them they get 2 cans of Fancy Feast a day. I know I know, bad food... but they are extremely picky and my mom won't pay for anything more expensive than that. We agreed to share the cost of food if I put them on something of higher quality though.
The oldest is 12, one is almost 8, and the other I have no idea her age... but we adopted her 5yrs ago as an adult.
If anyone has any suggestions on which food you think would be good please let me know! Thanks.

Hi,
there are lots of great foods out there. One big thing to think about/decide is how much you are willing to spend....
Probably the best food for really getting the cats to drop some pounds, which is very high quality, is Hills Prescription Diet R/D (reduced diet)--R/d you can usually only buy at vets' offices...there is another excellent food which is organic/uses only whole foods called Innova, and they have a lite formula (can buy in pet stores--can be kind of hard to find--think local pet stores, not chains). I know that a lot of people also like California Natural cat food too.
To give you an idea of the pricing--a large, like 20 lb. bag of Innova cat food is $32.99. I just bought a 6.6 lb bag for $13.79--not cheap! So, if you need suggestions on more midpriced or grocery store brands, just say so and i'll come up with some more recommendations.
Good luck and keep us posted!
btw...do you have an pics of your kitties? :)

I don't buy my cat food at grocery stores, I don't feel the quality is very good. There are reasonably priced foods at the pet super stores that are much better for your cats. I'm no expert because I'm a first time kitty owner and I've found that the cheaper grocery store varieties made him sick or gave him the runs.

Well I am trying out Innova Evo, it's a new formula I forget the exact name, but it's supposed to help with weight reduction. It was $13.99 for a 6lb bag. My mom and I are going to split the cost of the food 50/50 so it's not too bad. They are also eating less which is nice.
Thank you for your help!
