drooling stray cat. what could it be?

drooling stray cat! what could it be? We took him in a month ago. The vet gave him a good bill of health. He has been doing fine and tonight we went to bed and he started crying. When we checked on him he didn't want to be touched and was drooling. My father-in-law was afraid he has rabies and told us to put him in his cage(car carrier) and take him to the vet first thing in the morning. Of course he is still crying to get out and I can't sleep. Anyone up this late with advice? Thanks in advance!

I read another post about drooling/rabies and it said nausea can cause drooling. He has been eating A LOT. And I can't keep him out of the dog's food. And he drinks a lot of water. And I've noticed some house plants have teeth marks. But that is usually my female cat. I sometimes think she has bullemia because she loves anything that will make her puke. She will search out photographs in a stack of papers so she can lick it and make herself sick.
But back to Max, he and Liesl still haven't gotten settled in with one another. Could there be emotional issues there that could make him drool?

Allergies can cause cats to drool excessively, also. My cat is allergic to conofite lotion. We found this out when our vet prescribed it for him, but when we started using it Dokota got lethargic, disoriented, and drooled like the dog in Turner and Hooch (a Dogue de Bordeaux). So there may be something that the cat is allergic to in the home (food, medication, household cleaners, etc.). I would definitely seek the advise of a veterinarian and discuss every possibility.

As for the cat and others in the house not settling in, it may take a while for them to get used to each other. Sometimes they never really "get along", they may just tolerate each other. I know people who have multiple cats that just keep their distance from each other. If kitty A walks into a room where kitty B is then kitty B will simply walk out. As long as they aren't fighting I think they are probably ok.

Sure enough it was nausea. He finally got sick this morning. The vet said it was some kind of blockage in his urinary tract. The vet also said if we had waited another day he would be dead! They are keeping him a couple days. I guess he will need special food to keep it from happening again.

Oops, I posted on your other thread (I saw that one first). Anywho, i'm glad you took him to the vet a male cat with a UTI can be deadly and it happens so fast, i'm glad you didn't wait to take him. I hope he is feeling better soon.
