FOR THE RECORD... I DID NOT MEAN TO BE RUDE TO ANYONE.
JUST YOU ALL KNOW I AM NOT CRUEL WITH ANIMALS. NOT INTENDING TO BE, SO... PLEASE BE CAREFULL WITH WHAT YOU IMPLY THEN... IN YOUR MESSAGES.

Oh dear mircari, I think you may have misunderstood everyone here. :(

If it was my post that upset you, I was not in any way trying to imply that I thought you would mistreat any animal. I was just trying to explain why some people are opposed to any breeding of animals for pets. There are so many animals of all kinds in shelters who need good homes, and there are also, unfortunately, horrible breeders out there who don't care at all about the animals in their care. There are many links to stories about both of these situations in the "Animal Rights Discussion" threads. My position was never to imply that I thought you would do anything like that, only that I feel anyone (not just you) who breeds any animal should learn as much as they can before they breed so they know what to expect. I know that is what you are trying to do, but you also seem impatient. If anything, I guess I was trying to encourage you to slow down and get the information that would help you do a good job of caring for your Finches if you decided you still wanted to breed them. One thing I do care a great deal about is good animal husbandry. If a person (again, not just you) breeds animals before they know how to tell if they have a good, unrelated breeding pair that is free of genitic defect or disease, it is the babies who suffer. That is something that they have to know before they breed, because afterwards it is too late if they find out because the babies are deformed or in poor health.

As to other people on the site, I of course can't know what others are thinking, but I did look at all the other posts. I did not see anyone accuse you of being cruel to your birds or any other animal, just some people who also tried to encourage you to slow down and educate youself before you breed.

The only other thing I would like to add is, when you use supersized fonts on your posts, it feels like you are yelling at everyone. That may be what you intend, and it may not, but it doesn't encourage anyone to provide you with the help you are looking for.

mircari,
I personally have not responded to any of your questions as we don't have any finches. Just for your information I don't recall many members on the board as having finches, so others probably don't have any answers either. As a moderator here I also have reviewed your threads/posts and if any one was a bit rude here it was you typing in large capital fonts which implies yelling/screaming. You also need to remember that this is a big holiday weekend where a lot of people travel so a lot of members are not around to be here on petlovers just hanging around to answer your questions.

People on petlovers are very friendly and very helpful. However your implied impatience with not getting a reply as quickly as you wanted could be a big turn off to those who would have been willing to help. Yes, you can go on the internet and ask questions on sites like these, but you have no right to be indignant when the answers don't come quick enough, or the ones that do are not to your liking. '

Please consider yourself warned about not yelling/screaming in future posts. If you treat others like you would like to be treated you will be pleasantly surprised. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.

I have to confess that I have finches but I didn't reply for two reasons. 1. Mine are female and I have no intentions of breeding. 2. I didn't like the whole caps yelling or impatience thing.

Sorry Macari, if you want more people to reply please stop shouting.

Mircari,

This is a second warning. Please stop using the bold bright fonts for your posts. They are annoying and imply that you are screaming at people. I have not seen where anyone, including Von L, has accused you of cruelty to animals. You need to get the chip off your shoulder and get real.

mircari,

I am very sorry that I upset you. That was never my intention, and I tried very hard to word my posts in such a way as to provide you with important information without sounding judgemental in any way. I regret very much that I was not successful, but I do stand by what I said.

Also, I think I need to explain that I am not one of the moderators of the site. I am just another member like you. I have been doing a great deal of research on parrots ever since I got my Moustached Parakeet, Squirt, and I do enjoy sharing what I have learned with others, but no one connected to the site is in any way responsible for the things I had to say. They were my opinions based on my own research, experiences, and observations. Please don't hold others responsible for my words.

Finally, I do wish you luck with your Finches. I hope you do well with them.

I would have responded to your post if I knew anything about Finches or breeding. I try only to respond to topics I have knowledge or experience of.

Please do take Von L. advice about taking time to learn as much about breeding as possible. Due to poor breeding my female cockatiel is near sighted, her joints pop and crack, she has serious allergies and she doesn’t produce enough feather dust/powder to protect her feathers. My husband and I both agree that she will probably be the 1st of our flock to pass on.

We are doing everything to prevent her from breeding. I can’t image what her babies would suffer from. That thought kills me.

Please keep posting your questions. You can never learn enough about your birds.

Hey Mircari. I hope it wasn't me. I was just trying to help as was everyone else. Please don't be offended by our advice. We do not know you therefore are giving you a kind of generic advice we would give anyone. No malice intended. Just help. This is a nice peaceful place. HMM i just am cathing up with these threads, as ive been having terrible days lately...

as for the age thing, it's not specifically the number, but the maturity level...

As with finches, yes I have two of them.

I also respond to most posts, but if you were to go on and ask simple questions that even I, a non breeder, can answer, then I dont think youre ready, but should go back to reading more...

If you can't get books..i suggest the library.. know what one is?

Squawksx3

What time is Bingo?.... maybe we can go to Bingo, then to the square dance?. I bought a big supply of support hose when I stocked up on the depends... so we can exchange the Geritol and hose at the same time. By the way, I seem to have lost a hearing aid... did I leave it at your house?.

The bingo starts pretty late...6 pm and will be over at 7 pm. By the time I get home it'll be almost 7:30 and that is waaaaayyyyy past my bedtime. Remember, I'm a year older than you. I'll look for your hearing aid as soon as I find my bifocals. I think I left them at the Senior Citizen Center.;)

Hmmmm... maybe you should up the Geritol dose sis then you can do Bingo and square dancing in the same night. I've been eating more broccoli and oatmeal and its helping... so try that the next few days. Good luck finding your bifocals..... did you call Hazel at the center and ask if they found them?.

ROFLMBO Yvonne!!. I hear they have new vitamins to help with senility.. I'll have to check into it more because I may benefit from them. Sometimes I just cant remember where I left my head at.

Thanks Mags!. Sometimes I cant hear hubby when he yells at me and he's getting frustrated. If I go to Bingo with sis, I'll have to leave the house at 4:30pm cause my car doesnt go very fast and need time to get there....also my walker lost a wheel so it takes awhile to get to my car in the garage... so can you come by earlier?.

Ahhhh ladies. For us oldsters, I like Andy Rooney's appreciation for us:

Here are some of them:

An older woman will never wake you in the
middle of the night to ask,
"What are you thinking?" She doesn't care
what you think.

An older woman knows herself well enough to be
assured in who she is, what she is, what she
wants and from whom. Few women past the age
of 50 give a damn what you might think about her.

An older woman looks good wearing bright red lipstick.
This is not true of younger women or drag queens.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to
confess your sins to an older woman. They always know.

Older women are forthright and honest.
They'll tell you right off you are a jerk if you
are acting like one.

For every stunning, smart, well-coifed babe of 70
there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants
making a fool of himself with some 22 year
old waitress.

I don't feel badly if this thread is stolen either. You know why? Because I'm OLD!

LOL!
