male or female ? ether way it seems really nice since i got it today and dosnt mind being touched. hes a grey cockatiel they said at petsmart but he looks a little light brown to me lol will he get darker as he gets older?
Can't tell with those pictures, look at the underside of the tail feathers. Barbed for females, solid(ish) for males. :)

That's what I would suggest also - my female cockatiel has bars under her tail and my males have solid-colored tails.

Hi there,
This cockatiel looks like mine. Mine is a male and very talkative. They say that it's the colour of the cheeks. If your cockatiel has bright orange cheeks, then it's male. At least that's what I've been told. Go into the pet store and take a look at the books on cockatiels. It will tell you. Like I said, as far as I can tell by the picture, it looks male. You can train males to talk, but females don't, but I will tell you one thing. They are damn noisy - if they aren't talking, they're squawking or screaming. Mine mimics my cooking timer, it mimics the phone and it mimics my chihuahua when she whines. Sometimes he's a riot to listen to and other times, you'd like to string him up cause he won't shut up. They also like to dive bomb you if you let them out to fly. He's a funny duck, but very amusing. He and Gizmo (my chihuahua) are a riot to watch, as they play together. The bird aggravates Gizmo and Gizmo chases him. Trying to get something good going so I can send it in to America's funniest videos.
Good luck, I hope you can take the noise!

Sometimes females do have lighter cheek spots, but not always. When you look at my female next to my male, hers aren't any lighter than his. They are both bright orange. I thought she was a male for the longest time because of that, until she started laying eggs. :)
