Since we rescued him,Buster will not eat dry dog food at all.I've tried mixing it with canned dog food,he puts the kibble aside and eats only the canned. Is canned food only a way to feed him?He is a poodle mix,the vet said they can be very picky. What is the best canned dog food out there?

Have you tried putting chicken broth in the food and letting it sit for a minute while it soaks up? I had to do that with an old foster I had. What kind of kibble do you feed?

My toy poodle would not eat dry food for me either when I got him, sometimes he would even give me a hard time with canned food. He was already underweight and then he would go for 3 days (I never let him go any longer than this) without eating if I only offered him dry food. The vet found nothing wrong with him and said canned food was fine to feed so I ended up feeding him canned food only for about a year. I was using Innova and then Solid Gold turkey & potato formula. He did really well on both of these.
He does eat dry food fine now but I still give both dogs a treat of canned food occasionally.

My Bergie eats Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul and would sometimes do the same. I found my solution was cooking up some beef or chicken broth and brushing it on the dry food just enough to give it that tasty smell Bergie loves. She gobbles it up and now expects the broth when eating. She looks at me and then the fridge as if she is saying "OK, where is the broth"? LOL

I just thought of one other trick....
some trainers recommend using regular kibble as training treats but the trick is that you set the kibble in a baggie with a chunk of hotdog for a couple hours. You remove the hotdog and you now have hotdog flavored kibble. It might be worth trying as a way to get a picky dog to eat.

You might want to wet down the dry food just a little. Is he having any mouth problems?

Did you try the broth? You can either buy like a soup or buy the chicken and beef cubes and make your own. If you buy the soup can make sure you mix it with one can of water and then put in sealed container in fridge. This last a long time. I imagine you could even freeze it if you want. My Bergie love the smell and taste even though I barely put any on her food. LOL

Buster is now eating without problems. He gets 1/2 of a small can in the morning, and the other 1/2 at night with a few dry kibble thrown in.He is doing a lot better.
Thanks for all the help.
