is there a homeopathic treatment to expel worms? ive heard garlic or garlic juice works but also heard it is poison to dogs. i have heard other herbs work just as well or better. if anyone has tried it and knows first hand about the benefits of these methods pplease let me know. (i'm too poor for a vet)... also seperation anxiety is hard to cure when other people in house will not follow same routine........ what should i do if a person is partialy the cause of the problem? this is a tough one, help!

Hey, me again! I've actually never heard of garlic/garlic juice as a remedy for worms. I know there are natural remedies out there, but they are products you have to buy and will probably just cost as much as a vet. I really recommend trying your hardest to get to a vet. It will be so much healthier for you dog.

And what are the other people in the house doing to cause problems?

Ok I did a little research and came up with a few links. There isn't much solid information out there, so this is the best I could find.

well i guess its not what he is doing, its what hes not doing... wont leave the computer for 3-5 minutes to step outside the door while we try to ease the sepperation anxiety. he needs to learn to be alone for short periods of time before we start going away for an hour or so.

but as for the vet thing i agree it would be best to have him checked out... he is due for neutering and shots plus wormed by thw way what were the remedies you know?

honestly, if you go into a vet and say that your dog needs to be dewormed, depending on the weight it is pretty cheap. Probably no more than $15. It would be much more effective than a home remedy. Just tell them that the dog needs dewormed and that is it. No exam, just deworming. Try calling a few places and ask how much they charge. It really is inexpensive.

oh yes thanx for the links you have helped more than you know... i forgot my aunt has a bottle of ivomec for her cattle she might use it on her horse also but im sure she would let me borrow a very small dose for my pup. he will start to grow lots faster when he is rid of these parasites... he isnt severely infested but he will be if i dont act soon.

You have to let the people you live with know that it is really important for the dog to get over his anxiety. Are you working with him all day or are you putting him in the kennel for short periods of time? If you're home, he mostly needs love and attention from you. Keep with the training, but don't spend the entire day with him in the kennel.

I didn't read all the remedies. I think the top link I posted is the best one. I know garlic is listed in there. They aren't saying to give whole pieces of it, they are saying to brown some ground beef and put a little garlic in that. Check out those links, they seem pretty decent.

And as far as the Ivomec is concerned, you may want to contact a vet to ask for dosage information. If it isn't prescribed for you dog, it might be the wrong thing. You wouldn't want to give too much. What kind of worms does he have?

how much would you say it might cost for a thirty pound puppy at a fairly inexpensive vet? could you guestimate a price?

You can always call ahead and ask, they don't have to treat the puppy to give you a price. Just tell them your situation and that money is an issue, and they should be pretty helpful.

the worms are flat at one end (almost like a diamond shape) with a round tail at the other end. and they expand and contract eww.... i medicated him with a wormer a week ago especially for round and hook worms but... no luck so i thought maybe he needed another dose so i waited a week and gave him the other half of the bottle today. directions say meds might not kill them all at once hope i did the right thing. so now how long should i wait to give him new wormer if this doesnt work?

It really really sounds like you need to get him seen. These are all things you should talk to a vet about. Even if it seems this wormer does work, you have no way of knowing if it really did take care of the problem. Here's another link to a webpage specifically about worms in animals, they are such a serious thing: http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/worms.html

while im at home he is never shut in his cage but he does lay in there because i leave the door open. he also follows me all through the house and i have been distancing him from me all day and he has taken well to it. im his first choice then its my boyfriend but if the dog is left completely alone he freaks out. i dont think i could break him of his sepeartion anxiety if boyfriend wont help me go through the simple steps a few times a day. if it is just me steping out the door then pup seeks boyfriend for comfort and my efforts are washed away and no good comes of it. i choose dog over men lol :)

I am not sure what the price would be in your area. Thes best bet would to be to call and ask. About the worm, it sounds kind of like a tapeworm which would explain why the first dewormer did not work. Do you sometimes see what looks like a little grain of rice in the feces or on the puppie's butt? If so, it is tapeworm. Tapeworm is transmitted through fleas so if not already, you may want to get the pup on some flea treatment after discussing it with a vet.

we have used garlic to rid the dogs of fleas and worms and it works if you dont use it in large quanties, but I like to use LambertKayEvict DS its a dewormer you can buy thats not really expensive and is softer on the pups then the other stuff we used to have called erliworm, that used to give my dog the runs.. but this stuff is quick and effective and she likes the taste..
