One year ago today our pomeranian puppy Star died. She was barely 2 years old. She started having seizures in the middle of the night and we brought her to the emergency vet, but there was nothing they could do for her. We had to put her to sleep shortly after. This was a medical problem she had since birth and the pet store (Shake a Paw, in NJ) never told my cousins. (She was actually my cousins dog, but I considered her mine as well) Another reason never to buy from a pet store.
She was the best little girl. She just loved to be held all day, like a baby. And she always loved to come up behind us on the couch and steal our hairties. She loved to be loved and we'll always miss her.
My new puppy Riley, was named after her. His full name is Riley Star. And I've always believed she has watched over him. There have been about 3 'close calls' that I've almost lost my boy, but he is still here, and I've always thanked Starry for that.

She is the tiny one there.

Just wanted to express my sympathy over your loss of Star. Thanks for sharing her pictures and story with us on this anniversary of her death. While I am sure this will be a difficult day to remember I am glad you decided to honor Star with a tribute here. We may never understand why some of our loved ones have shorter times here on earth then others, we need to be thankful that it is us they shared that time with.

That is a very nice tribute to your Star. The pics are so wonderful too! They never really leave us do they? It is so sad to have only shared such a short time with Star. I have always really like this poem:
Lend Me a Pup
I will lend to you for awhile
a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe for two or three.
But will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me ?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief .
I cannot promise that he will stay,
since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain
Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again.
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy WIll Be Done,"
For all the joys this pup will bring,
the risk of grief you'll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness
Will you love him while you may
And for the happiness you'll know forever grateful stay.
But should I call him back
much sooner than you've planned
Please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you've managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you've loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.
