(I read this on the Birdtalk site and thought I would share it here):

Cold Weather Tips:

*Have your furnace serviced.

*Change filters in air cleaners and on heating and air conditioning units.

*Alleviate cold drafts from windows by checking seals.

*Make certain to burn fuel nontoxic to birds if using a stove to heat the house.

*Due to less ventilation from the closed doors and windows blocking the cold, be more mindful of sprays and cleaners you use in the house, as well as candles and incense.

*Make sure your bird's cage isn't near doors that are constantly being opened to the outside.

*Keep your bird’s cage away from drafty windows.

*Don't let the cold air in: Try to keep opening and closing doors to the outside to a minimum.

*Keep your house at a comfortable temperature at all times.

*Take advantage of fall and winters vegetable to add a Vitamin-A boost to your birds diet.

*Purchase new full spectrum lighting for your bird, due to lack of natural sunlight in the winter.

*Install a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector and check them monthly to make sure they are in working order.
