Oli is going through a jealous phase (just got him a "friend," Aleda, the other day, so he's sooo jealous) and I snapped this picture when they were both on my bed. I was trying to get a shot of Aleda but he came running up at the camera! I can imagine him saying "NO, LOOK AT ME!" in this pic!

Lovebird colors are so beautiful! Everytime I go to the petstore and see new lovebird babies ... there's always a "new" color I have never seen. Wish I could have more than one lovebird ... but Bijou keeps me so busy as it is already. :)

oh wow amanda. I just went and looked at your birds and Bijou is absolutely beautiful! She's a what, pied sea-green? So awesome. You're pionus is very pretty also. I saw one at a birdfair recently and got to hold them and man, photos don't do justice to how beautiful they are! I love the eyes. So large, they look very intelligent! Right I'll stop blabbing now! XD;

I've got another lil picture for you all. This is Aleda letting me know she's wanting picked up or something!

Awww, Aleda is gorgeous! Is she a creamino by any chance? They're not very common around here and I've only seen them twice ... and I love the yellow coloring they have.

We got Bijou from a petstore and we were told that she is a pied dutch blue. I think that maybe her parents were a dutch blue and a creamino or lutino? She looks like a dutch blue (with the peach forehead) but she also has a splash of yellow on the back of her neck (which a true "dutch blue" won't have).

Anyway, lovebirds are awesome! :D

Yes Aleda is a creamino. Ever since I saw "Melody" at http://www.lovebirdcenter.com/ (back when I was researching lovebirds) I've wanted one! I absolutely love their eyes.
Anyway,
Your Bijou might be like they said, a pied dutch blue. I always get the dutch blue and sea-green confused! The yellow on her neck is actually because she's "pied" since that's what pied is! Look closely and you'll probably see she's got maybe a few pink/white toenails and a few white flight feathers. Pied, in peachies, is when they have yellow throughout their plumage. Sometimes the bird can appear "clear" in which it is completely a bright canary yellow with a bright peach forehead, or they can be like, completely normal looking at a glance but when you look closer they might have 1 white flight feather or 1 pink toenail indicating they're pied! It's amazing!

How old are your birdies now?? They are BEAUTIFUL!

I've seen Melody before too, when I was doing research on lovebirds! She is absolutely gorgeous! Actually, creaminos were my first choice and dutch blues my second. At the time that I went to the petstore to see if they have any creaminos or dutch blues, I fell in love with Bijou ... and couldn't leave the store without her. Needless to say, she is neither a creamino nor a dutch blue ... but I still love her endlessly. :D

Well mister Oliver was born in mid-February (we say his hatchday is Feb. 14 for fun) and started his molt around mid-july, when he was five months. I noticed a few bright peach feathers on his forehead then and it just progressed from there. Just recently his forehead has filled in completely peach and he's now 8 months! It's a very slooow process. For awhile there he looked like he had a disease on his forehead cuz it was speckled! And now he's got only ONE flight feather on one of his wings! He HAD one on his other wing but I think he chewed it off because I was bothering him a lot. Aleda on the other hand just hatched on Aug. 5 so she's alot younger.

This is Oliver back in April when I got him. He's changed so much!

Lovies generally start molting around the age of 5-6 months.
