Thanks Jan - I absolutely adore Cookie - hubby finally gave in and said I can get a Cockatoo, but only if it's a rescue. So please keep those fingers cross, because I am looking at it right away.
Oh and your birds make me think of that song "All things bright and beautiful", they are absolutely beautiful!!!

riana -- you will love having a bird! Just be aware that cockatoos can be very loud so be prepared. I hope you find the bird for you soon. Good Luck.

You're all so sweet ;) . Thank you for the compliments on our babies. All our feather/fur/reptile kids are such an important part of our family... they are definately our kids!.
riana... thats so wonderful!!!. What kind of Cockatoo would you like to get?. We weren't picky and never pick out any of our kids... they just seem to find us :D .
dlaura is so right.... cockatoo's are known for their screaming and unpredictable moods... but they are the snugglers and velcro birds of the parrot world. They also tend to bond with one person. People think that macaws are worse than cockatoo's in the screaming department.... not so!. Our macaws will scream and are loud but will stop after a short period.... they mostly talk. The cockatoo's will scream for hours... non stop... at the top of their lungs and a big part of why they are abused and turned in to rescues. Hedwig is a Goffins cockatoo and medium size... a Rose Breasted cockatoo is also medium size and are sooooooo gorgeous ... they naturally have wonderful personalities and dispositions... and why you dont see very many in rescue. I would LOVE to have a Rose Breasted!. The Goffins are the clowns of the cockatoo's and possibly of the bird world. The only bad thing is they are known for plucking... we just got lucky with Hedwig I guess. The Umbrella's and Moluccan's are the large cockatoo's. Sam is an Umbrella. Both were rescues. Sam has separation anxiety and does what ever it takes to find me or get my attention. He's my snuggler and velcro guy...and hates hubby!... he also screams the most!. Cookie was suppose to be a breeder and wasn't handled like she should've been. We can scritch/pet her, but we cant handle her or she'll bite. We still have a lot of work to do with her but she's very sweet. The only cockatoo that talks is Hedwig.... Sam only says "Hi Sam"... Cookie doesnt talk at all. Good luck!!!!.. and keep us updated!.

That is very interesting that only Hedwig talks. Our goffins cockatoo talks a little but only one or two phrases while the B&G talks a blue streak. He is also like your macaws -- will scream for a period but mostly talking or is quiet the rest of the time.

Oh Diane... Hedwig has just as big of a vocabulary as the macaws... maybe more. That little guy can talk/sing up a storm and the words are very clear. I think he thinks he's a macaw LOL. He was the only 'too with the 2 macaws for quite awhile before we got Sam and Cookie. He's the smallest of the five but he has "little big man" syndrome.... thinks he's the biggest and he can hold his ground with the other 4 LOL. When people first see our birds they tend to go to the big colorful ones.... but after they visit for awhile everyone falls in love with Hedwig. He has such a great personality .... he loves people and getting attention. He's Mr Socialite... and there's a waiting list for him if anything were to happen to us hahaha. We just had a guy that fell in love with him and was very persistant that we trade him for a Blue Fronted Amazon:eek: . There is no way we would trade any of our birds ... they are with us for life! :D

Therese... birds are ALOT of work.. but sooooo much fun and so worth it. Its like having little kids around all the time LOL.... except you can lock these kids up in cages and leave them alone for awhile LMBO! :D . Theres always something new everyday with them... when one says a new word its so exciting... and we're like proud parents all over again! LOL. They are a hoot.

Incredible pictures- the clarity and quality is amazing -- and of course you picked the best subjects - BIRDS! What kind of camera did you use? I personally take a lot of shots of my birds with my cell phone and save them to my online albums so I can download and print them later.

Jan I would love to have an Umbrella or Moluccan. At the moment I don't know where to start, I've looked through the papers and did a search on the internet, but could'nt find any Cockatoo's up for rescue. I'm on a waiting list at the SPCA. I am so excited I can't wait, but with time I think the right one will find me and I'll just have to be patient.

Fantastic photos and gorgeous birds. I have been following a thread on another forum where they have shown the baby(blue & gold macaw) growing from birth to 6-8 weeks. Its facinating stuff, I didnt realise they grow so quickly from naked pink aliens to such stunning birds.

Jan I don't know what to say! Your birds and your shots of them are breathtaking. They are all so gorgeous! They must fill your lives with joy! Someday....someday.....I will get a bird. You all have me wanting one badly but I will wait until it will be perfect for the bird and myself to have one. What characters they seem to be and SO smart!!! They just amaze me. Thanks so much for posting their pics and explaining about them. :D

I just found this thread and I'm so glad I did. Sis you know I just love when you take pictures of your birds. Your photography is great and shows the real beauty of these babies!! I never realized how beautiful the colors are in the scarlet macaws. My goffins doesn't talk at all, probably due to his abuse but he does have a way of letting us know what he wants. :D
