Sorry to be such a bother!
I have another question, totally unrelated to cleaning the cage.
I have a female budgie that (sorry I have to talk of this) has rather abondant droppings, a bit watery. It does not look like she has diahrrea, though, and this is something I've noticed in her for months and months! The shape and color are normal, but it is a bit more abondant and watery than for my other birds.
I have used medication to treat her in case it was an intestinal problem, an infection, etc. but she still seems to have rather big droppings that are somewhat watery. Other than that, she is the image of health. Big, active, joyful, smart, alert, wonderful feathers... so I don't get what is going on.
She follows the same diet my other birds follow! that is, seeds, some vegetables (but not too often), some of those supplements with vitamins, egg, and minerals that one feeds baby birds with, apples, some of that special yogurt with lactilobacillus (as suggested by my vet), some egg yolk once in a while, etc.
Any of you has the same problem with a bird?

What are you feeding her as far as veggies? My lovebird had that same problem took her for a stool sample and she had E-COLI. MY bird also looked healthy. Check for ruffled feathers( a sign) or your bird if female could be starting a cycle. The vet gave me BAYTRIL(2 cc 2x a day) and in 2 weeks her stool was solid. Your bird may not have e-coli at all but this was my exp. Hope it helps you

P.S if your cage was a little dirty(dropping in food or water) thats how they get e-coli.

Thanks for the answer! no, I don't give her veggies too often just to avoid making her stool issue worse. I have Baytril and will try again. Then again, I think I tried it once already and it did not change a thing, I think! she is a female, and I did not know her cycle could have something to do with that! can you elaborate on that more? because it IS true that although it is a common thing for her, it is not like it happens all time long, every month, every day. No ruffled feathers, by the way.
Hugs!

While I try to avoid that from happening (having stool falling in the water or the food), that occasionally happens when I am away and it is possible that they might have drank or eaten something a bit contaminated some time. Good info!

When she is starting a cycle a sign is their stool will get loose(watery to put it nice). She will puff up and her bottom(vent) will start to change. This site has pics of a female lovebird in a cycle http://www.lovebirdsplus.com/(great lovebird site). If baytril didn't change her stool in 4-5 days then i doubt it is e-coli but i could be wrong. Is your bird looking for nesting material? Nippy?
