I have four birds at home and it seems that they communicate their wants and needs very well, it even feels like they have me trained to do certain things. A perfect example of this is my green cheek conure wants a nut he/she goes to the end of the couch looks at the container and chirps then looks back at me to tell me to give him one. I was just wondering who else feels that their bird(s) are the ones doing the training.

My lovebird definitely trains me! SHe can get me o do just about anything. Her favorite is banging the doors, pacing, and making noise with her toys to get out of the cage. It works every time!
WHen she's playing on the computer moniter, like right now, and drops the pen she's chewing on, she tweets loudly and obediantely I pick up the pen and give it back to her. She rubs her head against my hand when she wants a head scratch. When I take away the earring she is chewing on, she nips me and I give it back to her. And when she knows she's been bad, she gives me kisses and I give her a treat for it, forgetting all about her misbehavior.

Oh, mine definitely do that as well!!! When I first got my green-cheeked conure, I taught him how to turn around and used a small treat as a reward when he did it as I said "turn". Now though, he's gotten very smart and if he sees a treat I'm not giving him, he'll start turning in circles over and over! lol It's very funny! He also does the little chirp-n-stare thing for anything he wants. Another thing he's figured out is that the kitchen sink faucet is where water comes out. So, if he wants a bath, he just flies to the nearest faucet and sits on it patiently waiting for me to come over! One other thing he's figured out is that I always respond back when he says his name. Thus, whenever I'm "ignoring" him and he's in his cage, he'll crowch down on his food dish or wherever and look at me with the most pleading, sad eyes and say "Kirby Kirby Kirby" over and over until I come let him out! It definitely works like a charm- there's just no way I can turn such a cute little face down! He's the cleverest of all my birds as far as "training" me, but they do it a little too.

Hamlit has trained me very well all he has to do is say
peek-a-boo and I know it's time to play or if he is in his cage all he has to do is tweet and he gets his cage door opened. he finds new ways to control me every day :D I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

Same here. I look forward to every morning when I get up and wake my baby's. I have to wake them. Then the training starts. First Sunni screams till I pick her up,no matter how hard I try to not do that she hangs upside down and looks at me till I do. Pearl on the other hand sounds like she is saying HI!!! real loud so I can hear her OVER and OVER again till I give in and pick her up. Then Sunni and Pretty girl will flap their wings and scream real loud while pearl is out and they are not. Its quite funny and my hands are full.

.........I am owned and trained by my birds, too. First thing in the morning after uncovering them, they squeal and sing out until I open their cages. Next they look for fresh food and water (heaven forbid they wait too long). Marcel, my Pionus is the funniest. He says "hello" and "what you want?" over and over again until I open the playtop on his cage.
I also notice they get very excited when I am on the telephone.....as if they want me to give them my attention and not the caller.....lol. I need to close the door to their room in order to hear .
Marcel squawks and says "what you want" when he wants me to take him to his perch in our family room to watch cartoons (his favorite).....but the minute I leave he cries out like a baby then on my shoulder he goes.
Late afternoon they all look for a snack (treat).....are they spoiled or what!!
At sunset, they sit on their "nite nite" perches in their cages and stare at me until I cover them again for the night.....sooooo cute.....
.......All in a days work:)

Ever read the parrot who owns me? That soubds like the story of my life. Well the title at least. I'll admit it. My flock trains me. I'm their slave. But I have a high rank in the flock. I just hae to do everything.
