food that sounds bad for my dog

i was reading of some of the ingreadients off the dog food bag i got my dog. non of it sounds to good for him. his food brand is bentiful. i was told it wasnt to good for him by a close friend. with living in a small town and only having 2 stores to shop at its hard to find out witch dog food brands are best for my dog if any one has any good brands to recomend please write or if now of any good barand you can find at stores sutch as wal-mart or tops it would would be even better :)

grocery stores just dont carry appropriate foods for dogs. beneful is a pretty bad one disguised in pretty packaging. you'll probably need to travel for your dog food. when i used to feed dog and cat food, i had to travel a 1/2 hour to go somewhere that carried what i wanted. here are some good ones:

wellness lamb formula
innova or innova evo(contains no grains)
eagle pack holistic
chicken soup for the dog lover's soul

That is honestly a terrible food IMO


here are some really good foods. they can be more expensive than some others in the stores but you have to feed less, the pup will poop less and they are getting better nutrition thus actually saving you both time and money

If you can't get any of these below, look into foods that do Not have wheat, corn, soy, salt, white rice or by products in them and have a good meat source as the main ingredients. HOPE this helps

Timberwolf
With a very high percentage of meat based protein it is quite expensive. But since the dogs don’t eat as much of it, it really ends up being a good buy. There is a wide variety of formulas and 3 are true allergy formulas since they don’t use any form of rice, corn, wheat, or soy.
I currently feed Timberwolf Elk and salmon to both my dogs and puppies. It is a great food and they love it!

Nature’s Variety:
they coat it in dehydrated raw food. They call this “Bio-coating”. It ups the meat percentage quite a bit, though pound for pound it’s still less than the Timberwolf.

Merrick:
Merrick also coats the kibble in dehydrated meat. They have added freeze dried vegetables and chunks of dehydrated meat in with the kibble.

Wellness This is a baked food, it can be a little smelly in the bag LOLbut a great food non the less. I fed the Super 5 Lamb Mix and the dogs and puppies both did great on it. I switch to Timberwolf as I felt it was higher quality

but not EVO, EVO is for working dogs and even then needs to be used in moderation as the prtien level is way too high for the average dog

Yeah you may find that you have to travel to find the good foods but it is well worth it in the long run cause with a good food you have to feed less and you than have less to pick up in the yard later. Plus your dog will have a healthier life and less health problems.

my dog is very picky and he likes the different colored food for some reason. do any of the food products you have sugested have colored food peices if so he would realy like that.

Your dog likes the taste of the additive in the food with the particular colors. The coloring in itself is just another unnecessary additive. Like people who add too much salt or sugar to things to make it taste better. Some dog food companies add crap to make the dogs eat it more. They add pretty colors for the 'humans' to look at as mpore appealing, the dogs could care less

Your dog will eat any food you decide to give him , but will take time to get adjusted and you have to be consistent about it.
