hi - we have a nearly 3 year old lutino... and unfortunately we weren't feeding him enough fresh veggies, etc... he has primarily been eating seed.

a couple of weeks ago he started drinking water excessively and urinating a lot. finally nearly a week into it i phoned the vet and asked what to do...

she told me we had to change his diet but that they couldn't take blood because they'd not be able to draw enough to test if it's diabetes, or a kidney or liver issue.

since then, i've been trying to give little harvey V8 juice, i've been hiding vitamins in his food dish, and i've mixed pellets in with his food.

she said we have to watch the protein, fat and the starches, given that we don't know what the problem is... make sure he has more fresh food, etc., but the above is about all i can get him eating (other than eggs, which she said i can't give him anymore) he won't eat any of the greens i give him or anything.

i'm at my wit's end... i'm making him a veggie birdie bread tomorrow... but i feel like i'm sitting here when i could be doing more to help him. i'm scared that he's going to die because we aren't doing enough... and i'd seen links such as this http://www.diabeteshealth.com/read,1031,76.html where it seems like more can be done.

call another vet? i don't know what to do... :(

I don't know a whole lot about bird but I think there are vitamins you can drop into their water - this may be helpful.

You may want to check with your local caged bird society for resources

good luck - poor birdie

thanks... maybe i'll do that.

i did put the vitamins in his water but he refused to drink it, besides the fact that i've read that it can breed bacteria and make them sick. the best i can do right now is sprinkle it on his food mix and hope he takes at least some of it in...
