This is a live satalite picture of Rita in all her glory. To anyone that is in the Gulf Coast, please get out of Rita's way....she is going to be a brutal storm.
Be safe.

I briefly watched the weather channel at one point today and I almost got sick at my stomach when I realized this was another Katrina. Hopefully everybody is taking this one seriously and there won't be the human tragedy that Katrina left behind.
That's pretty scary! I'm in Texas but Austin, so hopefully we won't get too much of a backlash. But we're going out tomorrow to get essentials like flash lights just in case the power goes. My mother is over from Britain (one of the reason I've not been online much lately) on a 10 day visit and I think she's a bit nervous.

OMGosh, that is HUGE! Either way, it is going to effect one of the areas there. It's boxed in.....

Gina, I just watched the news on it and they expect it to hit the coast Saturday, and as a category 5. Katrina was a 4 when it hit. Here is a list of maps showing the projections, as well as various other maps.

At another message board, there are people saying they are going to sit it out, and they're in houston. I can't believe them! I mean, I understand that this is their choice... but, they're insane. The only real reason they don't want to evacuate is "traffic". Ridiculous!
Please, everyone in her wake, leave, get away. Staying in a shelter if you can't afford a hotel, hotel stays, anything to get out and stay safe!

Good point Riley and thanks for the link Georgia.
Edited to add that I didn't look at the address on that link, it's actually UT where I work, we produce those emaps...LOL

In the first picture, I see somthing else that looks like it's trying to form into somthing out there in the gulf? Is there another tropical storm out there that could go into another hurricane besides Rita?

I believe that is tropical storm Phillpe (sp?), and I don't think it poses any threat to the US. Yet. sigh.
