Does anyone know about taking a macaw on a plane. I want to fly home for Christmas and don't want to leave Roxy. Has anyone done this? What does it cost?

Kaye, the best thing you can do is actually call the airlines direct and ask them what they require. Not all airlines have the same policies. I have flown my pets, but they were in the cabin with me, not in the belly of the plane. I highly recommend that pets DO NOT travel in cargo, temp controlled or not, but that is just my opinion. A Macaw is large so I am not sure if they would allow it to be in the cabin with you. The carrier has to fit under the seat, and the pet has to have ample room to move around in it. I hope this helps. ;)
find yourself a sitter.
I booked a flight using delta based on what they told me on the phone. I went on my trip and bought birds while I was there, then they wouldn't allow them on the plane and wouldn't refund my tickets. So I got to pay for a rental car and drive back to NE from Florida.
Their answer was "I don't know who told you that. We allow 2 animals in the cabin in carriers that will fit under the seat, and "domesticated" animals take priority over birds. Sorry we can't help you"
Can you tell that I am still bitter toward Delta? ;) I will NEVER fly with delta again.
Some of the other airlines may let you, but it seems as though the regulations are subject to interpretation.
