I recently crashed my computer and lost my previous website, squacktalk, I found this one and I thought I would introduce myself, I have a greenwing 6years prettyboy, and a blue and gold 2years, petri, they keep us pretty well entertained. I am retired
retail store manager, I just finished my equestrian science degree and I am training horses.I intend to eventually compete in endurance runs, and trails, that is my main goal, my parrots were my first addition to my 10 acre zoo, I live outside chico california, we moved here from san jose, what a great move!I love all different birds and find them quite intelligent, and its great to hear about everyone else's experiences.

thank you, I am glad to be on board.
how is your weather, and tell me about a whitecap pionus. i am not familiar with this bird.I would like to have an african grey, I have had a goffin cokatoo, and a sunconure and a duskynape conure. I would like to have an amazon, a hyacynth, and maybe
an african ringneck. I eventually would like to have an inclosed aviary. I have not come across the white cap pionous. does he talk, do your budgies talk? my conures never did, though they were still characters. I traded them for the blue&gold. because the greenwing was more compatible. they are in the same cage, and I didn't put them there, they are unseperable.

hi! its another rainny day in sunny california, so here I am, enjoying my parrots and on line. I have had the parrots out side as I we did our outdoor spring chores, fencing and wood splitting,(this due to a 125 oal tha fell in our yard during the last storm). I work my three year old colt and my broodmare which is about to give birth anyday, and my endurance horse, who is out of shape. I have even managed to make a couple of baseball games in the evening, weather has been pretty iffy, and looks like it will be this way a couple more days. any ways, hope everyone has had a good week.

Hi,
Welcome! I too am a recent member of this site and have found it very helpful with a few problems I am having with one of our birds.
Our family is owned by: a green cheek conure, Einstein; a parakeet, Tweety; a Blue & Gold, Taz; and a Goffin Cockatoo, Angel. The latter being our "feather plucker" - an over achiever in that area. We are working on breaking this habit - using info rec'd from this site. We really enjoy watching our bird's habits and antics. It is really entertaining and they are all so lovable.
It is overcast in NJ today and probably going to rain. That is OK since I am at work anyway.
Have a great day - give your parrots a kiss from ours.
Diane

Hi fellow bird lovers, My macaws are outside on the deck, it is actually sunny in californa, land of un expected weather changes!
I went fishing yesterday morning, and we came home at 12 noon, now trying to catch up on behind chores, but as I am checking my mail, I thought I would pop over and wish everyone a great sunny day with your birds, I know they love the spring weather, and hopefully your all getting some. I gotta go back outside, I will try to check the new threads later!

I am back! its 9pm and everyone os in bed.
I think the weather is unpredictable everywhere, I have lived in europe, new jersey and georgia, we were in the army, and I hear everyone has the same story about that, but this is a funny spring, my parrots where out one sunny day, and by the time I had moved around the equine, I started to see clouds, temprature changed, and the parrots were on the porch, I kept oin untill it began to sprinkle, by the time i got to my wet macaws, the green wing was caking me a rat! they were wet, and cold, I brought them into the warm house, when they dried, and they were clean, the forgave me and were their normal happy selves.

I wish I could bring all my birds outside! The weather here has been terrible. All it does is rain and its so cold I still have my heat on! Its always so dark in my home my poor birds think that lights from inside are the only light. Oh well soon it will be nice and then we can all go in the pool!

You take your birds swimming?? I know parrots can't swim. Sophie likes to go outside on her leash.

Oh....Birdygirl....I am curious as to how Sophie likes the leash. I am getting a flight suit with a leash attached for Marcel. I can't wait to try it and hope he likes it. I am so afraid of taking him outside without one because I heard because the heavier birds can fall off a shoulder and hit their beaks on the pavement causing great damage. I am such a worry-wart aren't I.:)

Without one it is pretty dangerous even without the falling factor. Sophie doesn't like to getit it put on but she loves the outdoors and knows that is the only way she is going outside. And she hates getting it taken off because that means her outdoor fun has ended.
It is good to wory about our fids. Remember the Sophie bubble incident. That had me terrified.

No ,I don't let them swim. I have a little wating pool. You know the kind that children have? Its been to cold for my birds to take a bath outside. I just ment a bath. Sorry didn't want to scare you. I also have a fountian in the yard. Someday when its warm enough I will let sunni bath in it.

I worry all the time. Sometimes it has kept me up all night with such worry. I remember sophie's bubble thing. Oh I felt so sorry for you! How is she?

She is fine. Eating right now. She just woke up. I didn't think that you would let your birds swim but I wasn't sure.

Also where would you get a leash? I have to look into this for sunni. I love taking her outside, but I hold her so close to me and I know she can't enjoy this? I did let her sit on a branch yesterday and she just loved it. It was a very little lilac tree. She was so big the branch went way down. It looked so funny. I was standing right there. I let her sit for a minute.

i bought Sophie a feather teather bird harness. Flight suits also have the leash option. Feather teather makes them for birds sized cockatiels - macaws. (They may have a budgie one but I'm not sure)
