Hi there! I am new here and also new at taking care of a puppy.
My puppy is 7 months old (half pug and half shih tzu). I am wondering if it is possible for this puppy to be in heat  She started bleeding yesterday. I guess I thought she was too young, but, like i said - I have never had a puppy before. If she is in heat, how long does it last and what can I do for her during this time? I have read that I should let her go through it once before having her spayed. Any advice? I'm sure I will be posting lots of questions, so please have patience with me. I'm new to this, but I just love my puppy! Thanks for your adivice!:D

Hi iluvboo and welcome :)

It is possible she's in heat. You can spay an animal while they're in heat, but not recommended and costs more, you can call your vet and ask them. Keep her inside and away from other dogs for about a week to 10 days. Male dogs can sense a female in heat from a long ways off, and females have been known to jump fences and through windows to find a mate.... guess when nature calls, its tough to stop it sometimes. They have diapers for heat cycles the dogs wear so they dont make a mess in the house, you can find them at pet stores. Good luck with your pup.
